Hi Hyphos, you wanna consider looking for pink sapphire with GIOIA Fine Jewellery.
https://gioia.com.sg
Hi everyone! I am planning to buy a ring with a pink sapphire surrounded by small diamonds and maybe rose gold band. Example:

http://www.tiffany.com/jewelry/rings/tiffany-soleste-pink-sapphire-and-diamond-ring-GRP07304?fromGrid=1&origin=search&trackpdp=search&fromcid=-1&trackgridpos=17
https://www.bluenile.com/sg/round-pink-sapphire-ring-with-diamond-halo-in-18k-rose-gold_67243?elem=img&track=product&vtype=sample
I did some searching online, but could only found what I want from Tiffany and Blue Nile. Are there any other jewellery shops that have this design?

Also can anyone recommend a good credit card to make this purchase? Thanks!

Hi, maybe you want to try Ciel Jewels? (https://www.facebook.com/cieljewels)

She’s a private jeweller who has access to different types of diamonds and sapphires.

I feel that the bigger the diamond, the more obvious the yellow tint actually...even with super ideal cut, above 1CT, I decided to upgrade my planned G to F instead haha.

Maybe its because bigger diamond got bigger surface area so can see more of the color. It also depends on what setting design you choose to. For those rose gold ring designs, no need to go for too high color as the metal color will get reflected into the diamond.

The super ideal cut will definitely look sparklier than the ideal cut. But maybe your gf wants a bigger diamond? Then in that case, for the same amount of money (let’s say 6k), you can either choose to buy a smaller, sparklier diamond, or a bigger, still sparkly, diamond (but make sure it’s HCA below 2 and has a decent Idealscope image). Realistically, which one is still bigger for the same amount of money you paid?

The reason why people go to JP is because they want THE BEST. Let’s say you already know you confirm want a 0.5ct diamond. You don’t want anything bigger. Then sure, you can buy at JP and you will definitely be getting an OUTSTANDING diamond, best on the market.

Your analogy is a little mistaken because you WILL visually be able to see the difference between a super ideal cut and an ideal cut diamond. You won’t be able to see much difference in a jewellery store. But you WILL be able to see some differences in the sparkliness in natural light - it will be super extra sparkly.

Actually I am not sure if you are talking about JP Ideal cut vs. JP super ideal cut. But even their ideal cut is good because using the scope, there is no light leakage.

You CAN see light leakage in diamonds in daylight/natural lighting, it’s not like a car you just put there and don’t open the car to see inside. And you are likely to see it if the ideal cut from other shops do not have a fully red Idealscope image and HCA score less than 2. Many triple EX diamonds from China and India that are sold in Singapore are cut in 60-60 cut, which is definitely visually different from an ideal cut diamond when you compare both in natural light. And once you use an idealscope to check, they may have the black ring of death (inside the diamond not sparkling at all)/just not performing to their maximum ability, because their cut is too deep/steep. Why? Because the cutter is more interested in maximizing diamond size rather than cut. Duh. It will cost them more diamond raw material to cut a diamond with better cut (that’s why a diamond with HCA score less than 2 may be more expensive).

While the trend nowadays is HCA score less than 2 (diamonds with ideal cut proportions) and light performance with no white leakage on Idealscope image.

To fully answer your question, JP ideal cut diamonds are diamonds with HCA score less than 2 and good scope images. Can you find such diamonds in other shops? Yes, but make sure it also has HCA score 2 and decent Idealscope image to check for light leakage.

How about, is there a difference between JP ideal cut diamonds and any random diamond you buy from jewellery store that are NOT HCA less than 2? YES, there will be a super big difference if you take both diamonds and compare them sparkling next to a window. You WILL be able to visually see a difference (of course it depends on the random diamond since all diamonds are different). But the short answer is, because of the diamond proportions and because of the cut, it’s very likely that your random diamond is of inferior cut to an ideal cut diamond that follows ideal cut proportions.

Thank you jadeites for the detailed explanation. Now I understand more about diamond.

But still dont appreciate how one tiny thing cost a bomb. lol.

If you and your SO don't mind taking the less beaten path, you can go for moissanite which these days are able to achieve the equivalent of IF clarity and D colour for about 1/10 the price of diamond.

Main differences:
Diamond is harder (mohs' scale 10 vs 9.25)
Moissanite is tougher
Diamond has more brilliance (flashes of white)
Moissanite has more fire (flashes of red and green)

Went down to JP to see my ring's wax. Its made to the same scale as the actual ring. Can't really see much of the detailing but its good to gauge the overall thickness for the final ring. They told me that the actual ring will still be finer as the ring will go through a polishing stage that will smoothen the edges. They allowed me to keep it for memento :D I can tell they're putting alot of effort to help me build up my ring making collage.

I got itchy and saw my diamond again. Finally got the chance to see it under the sun! My last few visits was either raining or cloudy. I took some videos of it.

The flashes are very sharp and blinding. My camera phone only captures the bigger flashes. In real life, there is more of those smaller and glittery short burst sparkles but the camera doesn't seem to capture those. Anyway, bottomline is the diamond is damn sparkly. lol

This is another video. Its taken in sun light and at the 0:18 mark, there was a passing cloud. So thats how it will be when its cloudy. You can see the transition when the diamond is very firey and scintillating under sun light and then change to brilliant and brighter under cloudy light. It's easy to see the black arrows patterning under the cloudy light when there is no direct or strong light. Which is similar to normal indoor type of lighting. The octagon diamond looks nice in all types of lighting, just see which type of effect you prefer more.

Now for the patient wait for them to craft my ring.......

Nice ring! can tell you put in alot of effort... even more than me :s13:
I remember seeing the Octagon. it was very shiny.
When you collect your ring, they will give a free hearts and arrows scope too.

Dude. SAME HERE. When I looked at my old diamond I kept wondering why it’s so small when I paid so much haha. Like for what I paid it should have more of a presence haha.

Anyway if you are looking for good prices for diamonds in Singapore you can consider visiting CJ diamonds or Poh Kim. I just went to CJ diamonds yesterday to make a new ring. CJ diamonds doesn’t use Idealscope but yesterday he gave me a 2 hour lecture on why diamonds with HCA score less than 2 are not worth buying (to him) since they are more expensive haha (because you need to use more raw material to cut an ideal cut diamond). His prices are certainly good from what he quoted me. I haven’t visited Poh Kim but they are recommended on this forum because they use Idealscope but are at a good price, and I know some of my friends have purchased from him.

And as to the reason why diamonds are so expensive, I have tried really very hard to buy alternatives like clarity-enhanced or moissanite. Moissanite I’ve seen with my own eyes, it truly looks different, very different, unfortunately. There isn’t really a true, exact duplicate for diamonds, yet the demand is there, therefore they are expensive. Also don’t forget that if you try to sell a diamond in an emergency you may get back 30-50% of your cost if you bought at market price. (Like AT LEAST it holds some of its value.) Good luck trying to sell any other gemstones, there is way less demand for them and thus they retain less value.

Have you tried asking JP for a similar diamond which CJ quoted you? I believe JP could probably find you a similar quality at an even lower cost (considering the fact that their parents all run jewellery stores, superb low rental as they uses their parent's shop front)

Everything is about marketing, status of well being and supply and demand....haha.

Just like a luxury watch costing 30-100k+ or any other non necessity items, i try to be as fair as possible....if i'm willing to spend 20k on a watch for myself, i should be willing to spend 20k on a once-a-lifetime proposal ring.

No leh. CJ is confirm wayyyy lower haha but he just refuses to use Idealscope and HCA... still, he has been in the diamond trade for such a long time and some of my friends did buy from him and their diamonds look good to me so HCA maybe isn’t everything?! JP is actually quite expensive for ideal cut diamonds from House of Hung given their location and overheads. They quoted me SGD16k for a K color 1.6ct diamond which I think is madness, but of course I respect their price since they’re in orchard road. Poh Kim may be comparable with CJ, I really don’t know as I haven’t visited, but prices at Poh Kim look good too.

how much did you customize your setting? Do you mind if I get some idea from your setting?

My setting is $1800. The price is slightly more for the added diamonds and material.
Their usual plain setting is $550 and standard side diamond setting is $1100.

The design I chose has 3 types of material; white gold, rose gold and white enamel.
It has 4 rows of diamonds. I'm trying to fit 56 diamonds on each side of the band to make it total 112 (special number). The prong tips got 5 diamonds on each side, totalling 20.

Inside of the band is in rosegold. Though they did tell me what it will affect the future resizing of my ring. Its still possible to make the ring smaller or bigger in the future, just that it will be more troublesome and not the usual resize method. If need to resize in the future, it will affect the bottom part of the design.

Feel free to use any idea from my ring. One thing I like about JP is they do up the 3D designs and wax foc. Plus they are kind enough to help me with all my ring photo and video montage.

These are all the final pics I have for my design. I have the 3d making video of it too. You can find it in my older posts.

Well, its once in a lifetime (I hope :s13:) and I'm recording every step involved. Each of their cuts have their own merits and the Octagon spoke to me more.

Do they give the Ideal and ASET scope too??

Diamond is a 1.5ct.

I got my photographer to sneak some hand shots of my gf, then send to JP to superimpose my design on her hand. JP even taught my photographer on the best angles that they need to make it look good. Super impressed!

There's more coming up. I'll share it when I get them.

It's overpriced. I was looking at their list of diamonds...0.3 G VS2 normal triple EX and cost over 2k SGD, with such pricing you could get a super ideal diamond from Jann Paul.

I'll suggest u head down to JannPaul, let them know your preferences on diamond (you can opt for ideal and it will be cheaper and still better than your this japan site prices).

As for the ring design, i believe u could show them the photo and they could clone it for cheaper than your web site listed price of 1000.
