G is slightly more yellow. Though I wouldn’t say it’s obvious. When I saw G and F I couldn’t tell the difference. E And G I could, but it wasn’t that obvious

Yup I can’t tell apart for G and F too. Was trying to convince my bf to up the color to at least an E but he keep say cannot really tell the diff and he’d rather keep the ct size 0.52. But I think true la actually for a 0.52 ct, the color G May still look white and the yellow may not be so obvious unless it’s a bigger ct then it will be more obvious.

Didn’t know that. But did you see the prices at the website posted? Amora is like super cheap compared to that.

Cos Amora is not diamond, different atomic structure and chemistry.

Diamond is pure carbon, C
You can dig for it to find the naturally occurring one in the earth, or today you can grow it in the lab.

Amora is Silicon Carbide, SiC
You can find it in meteor crash sites on earth, or can grow in the lab.

Diamond more ex because of it's history, marketing and resulting demand.

Wow 10k budget is a lot. Most of the people I know their budget are around 4-6k on average. Actually 6k also on the upper side alddy. Are you looking at 1ct? But halo setting will make the diamond look even bigger. Ultimately still have to see ur gf’s finger if it’s proportionate to the diamond size. Else it will look too big.

Halo & paved means side diamonds? If so, $1500 should cover ring settings meaning you will have about $8500 for loose diamond.

The pricing for the cushion is similar to their super ideal cut so I would say should be able to get maybe a high 0.7x or low 0.8x CT.

Pricing around April and May for super ideal cut:
0.81 G VS1 $8600
0.82 G VS2 $8300
0.81 D VVS2 $11.3k

Back in May, the smallest ct for cushion was 0.9x which cost ~$12k. The person who replied my email said next shipment in 2 weeks (can't rmb if still within May or extended to June) where smaller ct may appear.

However I didn't follow through with cushion because the bulk of the CT weight went to its depth, meaning a 0.7x cushion will look like a 0.5 round from the top. You gotta see it to believe it.. Rather get a bigger round. Anyway you can always email to check on their stocks for cushion :)

Hope this helps somehow!

Thanks smileedee12

However she is adamant on cushion. (I guess Halo is to boost the size up, since some weight will go depth)

Are u referring to cushion brellia? and they tend to go from 12k? Thanks

do JP octagons look smaller than a round?

not sure if i should go for a smaller octagon (0.7x) or a bigger round (0.8x) as they are priced around the same

Than I Think u better stick to what she wants.
Bcuz these things are really quite subjective.
I think to save some time u cn ask if they have available stock first so you can go down and view it and at the same time go thru the diamond education.
At anytime remember all her requiments.
Doesn’t matter if round looks bigger.
Also I Thnk with halo 0.5 will already look v big. So for your Budget shouldn’t b an issue.
Will be able to get bigger than that.

Can't rmb what I typed lol but anyway the prices of a cushion brellia don't defer much from a super ideal cut of same carat weight.
From the prices shown in my last post, the 0.81/2 G VS1/2 are around $8.5k. Higher colour and clarity made the price jump very fast so Must see what you two are comfortable with but of course, halo makes it look bigger :)

As someone after me mentioned, you could check in with them what stocks they have now and if they have any within your budget so you could take a look.

A normal cushion is cheaper but does not reflect light as well as the cushion brellia. But I can't justify the price point of a cushion brellia being higher than a round of smaller carat weight but looks same from the top..

The look of the normal cushion and cushion brellia is very different thought. Shape is the same but how its sparkle is world apart. I think both had their own good points. Normal cushion cost will be lower and you can get bigger size for the same budget. The cushion brellia no matter what will be more sparkly than the normal one. For the brellia, I think you can get away with a lower color since the diamond is already much brighter and can look very white.

I find that the normal cushion cut no matter how big it is, it will always have that fragmented crystal appearance that doesn't really look like a diamond. Or maybe thats just me.. haha

You see this video and you'll get what I mean

Personally I went with my gf to see what setting / diamond she likes. Then from there I decide what to get for her. Some people who prefers more element of surprise may not do this. Are u asking cos ur partner doesn’t like the ring u got for her?

I have heard of Eclarity but didn’t check them out. Only went to JP,Larry, canary, tian po and Lee Hwa to check the diamonds.

Hi all,

Been reading this thread for the past couple of months and made my own way down to JP recently to pick out my engagement ring. I'm having a very hard time deciding between the following two diamonds:

1. 0.83 G VS1, Super Ideal
HCA score of 1.0 (Excellent light return, fire & scintillation, Very Good spread)

2. 0.94 G VS1, Ideal
HCA score of 0.9 (Excellent light return, fire, scintillation & spread)
Ideal because of shallow cut of 32 degrees for the crown angle and slight asymmetry (hearts not exactly the same size)

The price difference between the two is only $300. Any advice on which diamond I should pick? Thanks in advance!

You mentioned the price diff between the two is $300. But which is more ex? I suppose it is the Super ideal? I think it’s really down to your personal preference. Since you have seen both diamonds, do you think you can see the diff btw the super ideal and the ideal? Would u prefer a bigger stone and sacrifice a slight diff in brilliance, scintillation and fire?

Do you also have the ASET scope images?

I would take the bigger rock if I can’t really see the diff, but I believe most people here will go for the Super ideal.

Best place for a proposal ring - House of Hung along Orchard. Several friends got their rings done there and all are satisfied. It is located at Far East Plaza, beside Wheelock. :zonia:
