Can any kind soul help to review if this diamond from Michael Trio (Pure Hearts) is a good one please?

GIA REPORT NUMBER 2211115837

5.64 - 5.67 x 3.53 mm
0.700 carats E VS1

Table Width: 57%
Depth: 62.4%
Crown Height: 15.5%
Pavilion Angle: 40.6%
Pavilion Depth: 43.0%

Thanks much!

thoughts on the cut,
steep crown angle. and high crown height. this diamond may look low brightness.
if all remain the same, it would be better to have crown angle 34.5-35 degrees, with current 40.6 pavilion angle.

thoughts on the inclusions,
I may avoid crystal

I managed to get some photos, attached here for reference please:

Diamond -
Diamond + Ring (not fixed, placed on top) -

Pure Hearts cut is 57 facets, but any "bling" might be the store's strategically placed halogen lights..unfortunately I dont think i'm allowed to bring it outside the store to have a walk (unlike JannPaul) :(

HCA is on the higher side of 1.9 (lower better). The best is to get under 1.4 then use the ASET and Hearts/Arrows scope to confirm. Proportion wise, the crown is on the steep end of 36 degrees. This contributes to its deeper depth of 62.4%. Anything over 62% is considered a steep deep cut. Meaning its cut too long and will make your diamond smaller. Also, light leakages will start appearing when crown is over 36.

Oh, and you do want to avoid those flat carat weight like 0.70 flat. Did they tell you about it?
Hmmm.. strange that they dont let you see outside the store.. Outdoors is the real deal of how it's going to look in the end.

Ah are you referring to retailers' pricing strategy - a price jump when moving up the carat brackets e.g., 0.30 - 0.39, then a price jump to 0.40, versus not much price jumps within the carat bracket itself.

I tried looking for 0.68 or 0.69, but they're hard to find..I guess it makes sense because retailers would want to maximise profits and cut a 0.70 rather than cut a 0.68 or 0.69 and have to charge prices in a lower carat bracket.

Or does the flat carat weight refer to something else, e.g., its more worth to get either 0.69 or 0.71?

It's to do with the carat brackets and price jumps. Or rather for the value. Like you'll have much more savings going for a 0.6ct+ than a 0.70ct flat. Or for the same value, you might get a much better 0.6ct+ cut that will perform better. Tbh, 0.6ct+ and 0.7ct cant really see any visual size difference. A brighter and more sparkly 0.6ct+ will look more impressive than a 0.7ct that doesnt perform.

Plus your 0.70ct is a steep deep. So top visual size, it will likely have the same size appearance than a better cut 0.6ct+.

OMG. Thank you senpais, I understand why proportions are so important now:

"The diamond’s size is NOT the same as the diamond’s carat weight. It is very possible to find two diamonds of 1.00ct and to have one that looks 25% smaller than the other. This is due to the way that the diamond is being cut.

A diamond cut with a shallow depth would make the diamond appear larger in size while a diamond that is cut deeper will appear much smaller in size. In very extreme scenarios, it is possible to find a 1.00ct diamond equal to a size of a 0.40ct diamond."

It's a good thing that JannPaul only deals with diamonds with HCA scores of 1.4 and below then..

one more thing...dont take HCA so seriously haha. it is just a elimination tool.
you may need to buy an aset scope, if you are going to buy loose diamond in the market. its the best tool to exam any light leakage.

Simply put, it’s either you go with 0.6+ or 0.7+ carat weight. Just don’t go with flat carat weight.

One question on the HCA tool. Other than the score, there is also the appearance which would indicate whether the diamond looks the same or slightly bigger. Is that accurate?

Yeah, like Hasendehwz said, HCA is only the elimination tool and the tool is not 100% accurate. It's just a guideline to point you in the right direction. The size appearance is also just a generic guide. Ultimately tool is still the ASET to check how really good the diamond is.

To add on, since we're on the topic of ASET. There are ASET dirty tricks too. Like using a black aset background instead of white. Black ASET backgrounds will masks the light leakages. In fact, the best method is to get the ASET rotational video of the diamond. The front image only lets you analyze the light performance direct front, but you're not going to just look at the diamond direct front all the time in real life. The rotational ASET video will also show you the light performance in different angles and show the true cut quality.

Found a video from JP explaining exactly this!

I was just quoted $1.6k to 1.8k range for ring setting o_O:cry: at Jennpaul for a $3.7k diamond.

Proxy of the design looks like below. Is the ring setting price too much or am I over thinking?

Nice design! I know those setting with side diamonds on the top band only when do half eternity is about $1.1-1.2k. This one is full eternity and both side (front and back of the ring) got diamonds until the prongs. I would have guessed it to cost more.. Though the diamonds used are smaller than the usual pave, it does uses more pieces. So the total carat weight would be a more accurate measure. I can imagine it needs more labour to mount each of the diamonds too. Did anyone see their master Miyabi mounting videos? It's like watchmaking. lol. very precise..

Actually seems cheap 1.6k to 1.8k for a setting with all those melees? I got quoted 950$ for a setting with only 4 melee.. 2 on each side.
