Yes, you pointed out main reasons why I still chose to keep some of my policies.

Some riders have limited pay feature, which means you pay for a few years, then you are covered for the whole life.

There isnt much case to put forth.

In summary, endowments has these benefits

- Higher sum assured in the event of death or CI for family as compared to normal saving
- CI waiver where the insurer will "save for you" instead
- Forced saving

Of the above, are there alot better avenues to do the same? Yes there are. Term + CI is one already one that addresses 1) and 2) in some way.

Hence I feel endowment is only good and suitable for people who have no habit of saving at all. I have friends and clients like this, not many but there still are.

These are the people I know and will ask them to get a capital guaranteed endowment.

What huge expenses are you referring to for the first few years on term insurance?

You miss out on the protection value offered by endowment.

Let say someone signed up for an endowment, the next week he dies, then his family will be able
To get a lot based on what he has already paid.

Ssb wise.... not so. Unless you argue you use interest from Ssb to buy term then perhaps it is a fair comparison. Again, term isn't cheap too for flat fee till 65 years old. A lot of people in this forum has this misconception that term insurance is very very very "cheap", but it isn't that cheap at all. Coz first few years, you still have to pay for the huge expenses for term insurance. I think only 1 or 2 forumer pointed out this before.

Well said soneat.

with regards to this point though:
"If they are unable to do that themselves, they need to get help from someone else that can spend the time, effort and energy to do that for them."

It is not easy.
There are more salesman then agents in the business who are willing to spend the time and effort without a chance to close a new case.
There are more hoo-haa monkeys that criticize financial plans at first sight than a neutral party like you who really understood the policy wordings.

Even if you volunteered to look into his policy, he might still be skeptical about your intentions.
Volunteer to look into his policy? Urmm ....better not, it will take a lot of time and energy to go into all these plus I think for this case there's potentially little/no chance. It will take a lot of effort to bring the Policyholder up to speed, even if he's interested.

i alr mentioned endowments dont provide adequate protection

anyone got endowments products that provide 500k death and 200k ci protection payout?

premiums will be similar to maturity value (slightly lower)

pls dont mix investment with insurance

say so many times liao

20k,30k ci protection is not even called insurance

Go to your policy document.
Then look at the page of table of deductions.
See the deductions for the first 6 years. :D

I prefer prudential. Easy to claim + more complete coverage.

Look at the amount of money you need to pay if you decide to include critical illness + disability for 100 K coverage.
It is 424 per year up to 38 years.
I put date of birth as 10.4.1990, male non smoker, flat premium up to 65 years old.

Another 3 examples for illustrations:
Take note better rating insurers premiums are higher.

To my surprise, NTUC isn't the cheapest.

Yes, for these Direct products, Income not necessarily the cheapest.
Do take note for Direct CI products, it covers 30 CI conditions.

The 2014 LIA CI definition has increased it to 37. Some insurer adds it to 40. So if you buy non-Direct CI coverage, it is likely 37 - 40 CI conditions will be covered.

Yup but that's not the point. Point is capital protection with growth. If endowment is not better than SSB, what's the point? Not to forget the liquidity of SSB.

Seriously endowment doesn't make much sense to me. What ways exactly is it better than SSB? Slightly higher potential gain with higher potential loss of that gain too? After 20+ years? Most common folks don't want to know their $$ is doing nothing after 20+ years. Not to mention losses.

After such lengthy discussion here, none of the agent can provide a strong case to pick endowment over SSB. A strong advantage, not a potentially.

Or is there anything I missed?

Well I share your thoughts as well. Just do note that in the past (back to the days where the policy was bought 20 years ago), there was almost zero financial literacy, there was no low-cost "safer" products like SSB/ETFs. I personally might even recommend that for the illiterate (yes education level may be that bad then) is to take up endowments.

For those who are more interested in DIY nowadays, I would agree that endowments, or in fact any investment scope from insurers are irrelevant to such people. But there are caveats to these investment alternatives as well, and there are no TnCs worded at all (yes legal documents of insurers suck, but at least there is a reference point).

Some of these caveats include

1. the time and effort needed to purchase, keep track of these investments, compared to having a document sent to you yearly, and having someone you can call to enquire

2. reinvestment risk

Off hand I have some friends who are entrepreneurs that may be better off spending their "investing DIY" time to focus on their works. But at this time and age where information is so readily available, and financial instruments are low cost, i believe the % of such people will be smaller

I am still looking for cheap direct term with CI. :):D

Actually IF you want best value for money CI, depending on your age group and time horizon, you can probably explore one of these or combination of these:
i) Aviva Mindef/MHA Living
ii) Go take a look at the premium table for Income GTL for NTUC Plus!.
You can see while the Aviva one is very cheap for younger people, it is actually more expensive than Income GTL for NTUC Plus! for older people.
iii) You can also explore decreasing term insurance (that cover CIs)....the premium can be very attractive.
iv) Otherwise, is Direct liao....can't think of any other lobangs.

ur funny.. whats there to help when the TS is one of the skeptics ? did u even bother to read the first post ?

want to help the original poster, go straight to the facebook link in the first post.. theres no one to help here. this thread was probably created for "awareness" only

You are funnier, better ask moderator change thread title...to something is endowment policy relevant? Should you buy endowment of not etc. This thread has digress way off topic.

We should be discussing what alternative help is there to TS problem such as approching fidrec, media, etc. What has he being a skeptic got to do with his issue? You got read or not?

What makes u think he created a thread just for awareness? Nvm...you guys eat too full...keep on having these similar threads....one side say insurance is total scam, the other said useful if you know your stuffs...nothing new.

Out of here, you can continue follow this thread and give your 2 cents. Cuso.

Plus! Term Life IMO only good for people in the older age group.
Younger ones would certainly need more than $200k coverage, while this is cheap, tagging along another say, $300k SA with another plan + CI would still make it costly... haven done any calculation to verify my claims yet.
