Recently just recovered from Pneumonia in may 2015 and was very unhappy how CGH handled my case (and also my back problems on previous visits)which made me ponder that I should Upgrade my plan.

CURRENT:
PRUshield A PLUS: Cover everything since 2008

Pre-exsiting condition since 2009:
  • Back Problems
  • CGH cannot find anything Wrong
  • MRI scan show everything is fine
  • Raffles Hosiptal Diagnose with Chronic Backache and Piriformis Syndrome

I attempted to upgrade last year but reject it due to an exclusion. So I tried again this year after my pneumonia episode.

Attempting to Upgrade to A Premier:
2014 Exclusion:
Lumbo-Sacral spine, its discs, joint, nerve, spinal cord, ligaments, etc

2015 Exclusion:
The spine, its discs, joint, nerve, spinal cord, ligaments, etc

So 2015 exclusion is worst, this time is the whole spine.

In need of advice

My agent advised me to get a GP memo to indicated that I have recovered from my backache which is now under control by doing physio.

The idea is to use the GP memo to appeal for a lighter exclusion. Which is the 2014 exclusion.

However, my concern is the exclusion of the Lumbo-Sacral spine. It that a bad offer to accept even if the appeal is approved? I need some expert advice on this matter.

Should I remain status quote or accept if the appeal is successfully?

I don't think the new exclusion is viable to be accepted.

TIA

Have u tried other insurers?

2014 exclusion was first given by Great Eastern. Prudential gave the same exclusion.

Haven't try for other insurance yet for this year.

They share the same data base. So i would suspect the result will be the same.

I'm using Aviva, and from what I understand Aviva have moratorium underwriting options. If you do not seek any treatment for 5 years, then those per-existing will be covered. But I'm not sure if it's applicable for your case, since you have been excluded by other insurers, Aviva may reject your moratorium underwriting as well.

Or maybe you want to wait until the medishield life take effect in Nov, which should take care of pre-existing based on the govt policy, but not sure whether the upgraded options from private insurer will cover those pre-existing.

how about exclusion of Lumbo-Sacral spine? It this portion of the spine exclusion a lot of related medical conditions?

Is it better to stick to my current plan?

New update

Now my agent claims that the exclusion is only for upgrade portion.

Meaning the exclusion is only for private hospital. Govt hospital still cover 100%.

Is this true? Anyone can verify?

Spine exclusion is anything related to spin leh.

but still got so many other organs and parts of the body covered.

do you know what condition is related to spine? give a few popular example?

Since you said exclude a lot. You don't recommend the upgrade?

Is true. The existing plan will cover your existing conditions. So now you want to upgrade to cover pte hospital, th pre existin condition will not be covered in pte hospital.

So next time touch wood need to admit hospital, you need to decide the hospital based on your admitted condition.

If pre existing condition , go to govt. if new condition, pte hospital can cover you.

Take up before health deteriorate or more conditions surface when one aged.

Sometimes really need pte hospital coverage

Just plan your admission. If existing one then go govt. if new condition then can go pte hospital

I'm not sure what is related to spine. Coz I'm not a doc. : P
But any injury u must make sure it's not related to spine then can go private.

But if can upgrade jus go upgrade. Coz u never know when u will need private hospital service.
