Here is the pragmatic truth as per below...

1) by default he has to pay alimony to the wife unless she waive it, regardless of children biologically his or not his ( only possible exception is she earns substantially higher than him which in reality does not apply to most divorces here)

2) contrary to what most do not believe or choose not to believe, women's charter is aptly named as it protects women at the expense of men, be it deserving or otherwise...

3) The wife can claim that the man has maintain the not biologically child all along and pushed the court to require the man to continue to financially provide for the child... As the judge will always say, the protection and financial preservation of the children is of paramount importance...

If that's the case, generally is better than if wife is a total housewife...

If she is working, the higher her income, the lower the husband needs to support her lifestyle...

If she is earning substantially higher than her husband, then in theory, the husband can apply for 0 maintenance for her and she can fight for $1 maintenance from the husband for herself...

But even if she is earning substantially higher than her husband, generally the judge may still order the husband to financially support the children...

There are viscous wife who just want to zap the husband financially though she is fully capable of supporting the kids herself giving her substantially higher income or assets in her possession...
