Usually I park at hotel than take grab. I find it more convenient than drive.
Agree. Any recommendation for hotels with indoor parking and within walking distance around Jonker Street/Dataran Pahlawan vicinity? Casa Del Rio would be ideal but on the expensive side.Usually I park at hotel than take grab. I find it more convenient than drive.
Casa is a resort, thus expensive. Frankly I dont find edmw people the resort type.Agree. Any recommendation for hotels with indoor parking and within walking distance around Jonker Street/Dataran Pahlawan vicinity? Casa Del Rio would be ideal but on the expensive side.
I stayed at Casa del Rio for a few years continuously and I won't say it's a resort. Maybe its lago and it being riverside gave you that impression, but it's just a hotel to me.Casa is a resort, thus expensive. Frankly I dont find edmw people the resort type.
You dont need to worry about walking distance, just about all the hotels are like 5-10 min grab from it. (Assuming no jam)

That's describing me as well! All I know is people usually park in hotels and never use it until going home.
Same old list of companies. Good company so few.

If budget permits, it's indeed ideal location-wise. Melaka is good for those who like to explore and CDR enabled me to do that, right after breakfast. It being somewhat in the middle of the places I used to explore on foot, I was able to stop by for a break from the weather and drop my shopping bags before proceeding to the other side (Dataran Pahlawan and beyond).
Back then I only Grabbed to AEON Bandar Raya. Ya, I was told it's even possible to walk there, but didn't have a chance to try. That piece of info was given by someone at Mr DIY in The Shore where I stopped by after already exploring the surrounding area on foot from yes, CDR.
Once I Grabbed to Jalan Gajah Berang to help run an errand, and spoke to a shopkeeper while exploring the option to walk back. Was given the direction and I gave it a shot. No shortcut but roadside all the way, and I found myself back in good old Jonker.
After "moving" to DoubleTree by Hilton, I got to only walk once, and that's to Hatten Hotel. It's Grab practically everywhere else, even to the Portuguese Settlement that's like "next door".
Both hotels by the way, gave me the option of free shuttle service to the malls back then.![]()
If you like to explore on foot, then I'd say Melaka is very walkable. Armed with an umbrella for rain, shine, and shield, my longest walks were from the likes of Jalan Gaja Barang to Jonker, Jonker to Church of St Peter's, round to The Shore Hotel and Residences, and back to CDL to drop my shopping, then off again to Dataran Pahlawan and Mahkota Parade then back. Only Grabbed to AEON Bandar Raya. Oh, even walked to/from around Restoran Bei Zhan area which raised some eyebrows from the hotel staff.Nice review.
Is Melaka walkable? I kind of dislike going to JB because everywhere need to take grab. I am planning a short getaway trip this long weekend and torn between Hat Yai and Melaka.

Malacca town is by far better for walking. You can follow the course of the Malacca river from Kampung Morten and walk on both banks. JB is suitable for walking if you confine yourself to the small area around City Square- Jln Dhoby. Jln Trus, and to Stulang Laut. Not much scope for repeat visits. Is Melaka walkable? Thank you! This sounds wonderful! How did you reach Melaka? By bus or car? I am thinking of taking the train......never done it beforeIf you like to explore on foot, then I'd say Melaka is very walkable. Staying at Double Tree by Hilton was a different story coz I could only walk to Hatten Hotel and the nearby malls.
Now with even more hotels not very far from Jonker, others have walked from Courtyard by Marriott, and the area behind the old Equatorial Hotel.
Coach. The next you will be asking is which bus and to where. Go for the earliest Friday afternoon coach that takes you to somewhere in the city centre or Melaka Sentral at worst. Hotels may be an issue for a school vacation weekend, though budget options near the river should still be available. My choice lately has been area around The Shore and The PinesThank you! Luxury Coach Services for me, as their office and main pickup Concorde is convenient, and they stop by several hotels including CDL and DoubleTree.Thank you! This sounds wonderful! How did you reach Melaka? By bus or car? I am thinking of taking the train......never done it before
