Thinking of go there for dinner and wonder if grab is easy to book, since it's away from town area IIRC.
Due to competition the stallholders used to dash out into the carpark whenever someone got there. I thought they're no longer allowed to do that but that one time we happened to just finishing our meal when we realized it's still happening.

Not sure about these days, but I'd only go for lunch (not all restaurants open that early) or very early dinner.

Grab shouldn't be a problem, though a little longer wait when leaving the Settlement if vehicle is outside and needs to drive all the way in.

I drove to Malacca on Sunday and stayed at the Imperial Heritage. Two things going for the Imperial Heritage again are the hotel's car park and the location of the hotel within walking distance to A' Farmosa. Walked up to Church of St Paul's for the umpteenth time despite the rain. I won't recommend the hotel if not for the location and price. Amenities have aged considerably and the aircon leaked badly. Another advantage with the location is the abundance of Peranakan restaurants in Melaka Raya nearby.

Jonker's Walk was less crowded than usual, due to the evening rain, so I was able to park underneath the Hard Rock Cafe (RM5).

I witnessed that Melaka Gateway has failed utterly. So much for another of those Belt & Road Initiative projects. Many corresponding projects around Melaka Gateway are visibly abandoned, including the Harbour City, which can be seen from any high point in town. Hyped to be one the biggest malls in the region, the upper floors remain incomplete, with no construction activity in sight. Hopefully the adjacent cruise terminal gets to be reworked, so at least there is something salvaged.

If one wants to get up close with the Straits of Malacca, unobstructed, an option is to drive to Encore Melaka which is situated on reclaimed land by the Straits.
Which hotel in melaka do u recommend?

Don't know what is your budget.
There is a spanking new Ibis.
Hatten, DoubleTree, Courtyard, Swiss Garden can do.
I stayed at imperial previously and it was indeed old. even have blackout in the middle of the night.. no aircon for an hour like that…

i stayed at hatten before. Find it ok lor better than imperial though.

i read agoda reviews that doubletree in melaka is not as good as its counterpart in other countries.

hence the qns to u. Thanks! 🙏🏻

How's Double Tree Melaka not as good, other than the location? Though some prefer being away from the crowd for a quieter holiday.

I'm just curious...

I personally prefer DT Melaka to the one in JB, from location to crowd level to breakfast, to name a few.

My other favorite is Casa del Rio that's very near to Jonker.

Like I said, the only thing going for the Imperial is the location. Hatten is way better in every way other than price.

How much do you want to trade off for the supposedly worse maintenance and customer service. I will go a notch down to the new Ibis this time if it is up to me.

Hmm, seems like Portuguese Settlement might be less of a priority if going to/fro by Grab is gonna be an issue

YMMV but I personally don't see it as a problem. It's a settlement aka village with the central away from the main road so Grab car will have to drive in if not already there.

Last I was there, it's a feast day so traffic was quite high yet I got a ride out without much of a hassle.

Is it easy book grab to move around Malacca to go to some of those tourists spots?

Intend to stay in Hatten and looking to go places like Portuguese settlement which is out of town.
Popular areas in malacca grab is no issue.. it's only the further out areas that might be a issue :o

for one day trip malacca, morning go evening come back...any good place to sight see?
What time are you planning to reach there, and leave?

Have you been there? Anything in particular you want to see?

Unless you're driving and thus leave very early in the morning, otherwise the 1-day tour from SG that I tried, we went for lunch, walked around Jonker and the nearby historical areas, pop in and out of Dataran Pahlawan Mall, and zoom off late afternoon. Very rushing.

Like the other opinions here, you will not have a lot of time to do much of value. It is better for you to make it an overnight affair. How early can you cross over to JB? By the time you obtain your ride and arrive in Malacca town, it will be noon. At best, you can set off for JB after an early dinner in Malacca. Maybe 6 hours in Malacca?
