Great. Actually, the 16-18 October weekends is just my random picks and co-incidentally (my sis working at a SG-Pool licensed Private 4D counters) that the Sunday (18th) and Monday (19th) is my sis's off-days so she only needs to apply leave on Friday (16th) & Saturday (17th). Mine will be Friday & Monday.

Just called Hotel Equatorial Melaka for enquiry and well, straight answer is their room is max for 3 pax (business means business) and for 4 paxs needs to get 2 rooms and wheelchair friendly facilities are only available on lower floors for deluxe rooms only. At the moment, they still have connecting rooms available on the weekends I planned.

So since this is the case, I am now considering whether to stick with Hotel Equatorial or like Brother (or Sister :p) Habrosus suggested Hotel Hatten.

Are they nearby each other? Junkers Boutique Hotel seems having even better reviews then both Equatorial and Hatten. However, since this is an old hotel and by the look from main front entrance, I doubt it will be disabled friendly.

What about Holiday Inn Melaka?

My preference for Hatten over Equatorial is coz the former is linked to a mall, whereas the latter's exit goes right into the road(side), making a wheelchair-ride pretty bumpy wherever you wanna go. They're about 5 minutes' walk from each other.

You can check out the estimate rates of the hotels before calling them about your needs, as I'm thinking more about a family room or suite in say, a 3-star hotel. See if you're comfortable with their rates before checking if they can add another bed?

Got to be careful with smaller hotels in Melaka, though, especially those around Jonker. There are quite a few that are shophouse-type, and most of these have no lifts. Some have rooms on the ground floor though, like Courtyard @ Heeren, but their rooms are not big and I'm not sure if they're wheelchair-friendly.

Got to check reviews too (like from Trip Advisor), and see if you're alright with some noise. The Quayside Hotel comes to mind, as they've rooms on the ground floor, though not sure if the family room/s are upstairs or down. Think this one's converted from containers, so not soundproof...

i'm very surprised that nobody mention puri hotel?
http://www.agoda.com/en-sg/hotel-puri-melaka/hotel/malacca-melaka-my.html
It won some tripadvisor award before.

It's located at the jonker street, very happening at night...

Come to malekka must enjoy the night market, the jonker street..

I was just reading the very positive reviews on Knocknock Home, which looks like another shophouse-type of hotel.

With this kind of setup, will they have rooms on the ground floor big enough for their needs, especially wheelchair-friendly. Anyone knows of any to recommend?

One of the review on Swiss Garden Hotel & Residences:

"Firstly, hotel is new & the room is excellent,However, due to the hotel combine the access to the Shopping & residence, when come to use the lift when going in & out for HOTEL GUESTS , it s nightmare as we need to wait 15-30 minutes DUE TO LIFT ALWAYS FULL ! and the swimming pool is DIRTY, again for use of hotel & resident I think."

LOL .. perhaps this guest was too suay that time he/she use the hotel that time?

Thanks for the recommendations but main thing that will first turn me off is not due to the old look or shop-houses boutique hotels but rather these type of hotels are unlikely disabled-friendly. My dad is wheelchair bound though he is able to walk very slowly with walking aids but for the conveniences, I am sticking to Equatorial, Hatten and perhaps Holiday Inn.

Yes, swiss garden hotel melaka has this problem for the lift.. what i heard they have only 2 lifts, and these lifts serve the customer for hotels, shoppers and residence...

Hi,

I think Holiday Inn is out. You have to cross a busy road (Expressway) in order to go to the malls. It will be very inconvenient for your dad to run or push your dad quickly across the busy road.

Hatten and Equatorial are good choice. You compare their rooms and toilet facilities and hotel facilities before deciding.

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks for the advise. I actually would not have any issue with Holiday Inn as I am booking a private vehicle that will fetch us around during my 3 days 2 nights in Meleka but I still would prefer Equatorial and Hatten.

Hmm ... Equatorial told me they will stop charging 10% Serivice Charge effective from July 2015.

Now with their GST still at an "unsure stage", I won't let that service charge info affect the decision on which hotel to choose. They just might change their mind later one, though being a big hotel, let's hope not.

You try booking at hotelclub.com.sg, agoda, booking.com and etc and compare the rates.

I stayed at Equatorial before not bad.

I am not going to worry much of the 10% off without service charge offered by Equatorial. I am just waiting for Hatten to revert my enquiry. I sent an official email to their Info and Reservation team tonight. Previously drop an inquiry via their site but not yet heard anything from Hatten yet.

Just got official updates

Hotel Hatten
(Via Email)
Junior Twin Suite - MYR 300 nett per room per night inclusive of 2 breakfast
Deluxe King Suite - MYR 350 nett per room per night inclusive of 2 breakfast

(Via Hotel Website)
Junior Twin Suite - ~ MYR 315 nett per room per night inclusive of 2 breakfast
Deluxe Twin Suite - ~MYR 323.50 nett per room per night inclusive of 2 breakfast

Hotel Equatorial
(Via email):
Deluxe Twin Suite - MYR 318 nett per room per night inclusive of 2 breakfast

(Via Hotel Website)
Deluxe Twin Suite - ~MYR 254.40 nett per room per night inclusive of 2 breakfast
Premier Twin Suite - ~MYR 322.24 nett per room per night inclusive of 2 breakfast

Should I take Hatten or Equatorial?

Hatten -- Room should be smaller and slightly more costly but newer hotel and with shopping malls connected

Equatorial -- Room should be bigger and cheaper but hotel is older and per brother said it's at the corner of a road and would be bumpy should I need to push my elderly dad on wheelchair across the road (though I will not need to)

Advise?

Just got official updates from Hotel Hatten (Direct from Hotel) as below:

Junior Twin Suite - MYR 300 nett per room per night inclusive of 2 breakfast
Deluxe Twin Suite - MYR 350 nett per room per night inclusive of 2 breakfast

Compared with Hotel Equatorial (Direct from Hotel):
Deluxe Twin Suite - MYR 318 nett per room per night inclusive of 2 breakfast

Are these rates for 4 adults in the same suite, or do you have to pay extra for 3rd and 4th pax? Or are you planning for interconnecting suites?

2 adults per room for 2 rooms. Both Hatten and Equatorial said they do not have Inter-connecting rooms. They will do their best to assign Adjoining (next/near) rooms.

That's over S$200/night for 4 of you then.

Have you considered non-hotels? I happened to see good reviews from this, while browsing around for possibilities if I do head there with a group of friends.

Somewhere to "stay under one roof":
https://www.airbnb.com.sg/rooms/2118288

I even thought of trying it out, but chickened out if there're only 2 people as I'm not sure if the location is too isolated. Am still trying to figure out where it is. :s13:

Yeap. I am okay to spend that amount though still thinking between Hatten and Equatorial.

The location is good. It is a parallel street to Jonker Walk. 5 min' walk. Lots of Bnb options in the area.
