"Within walking distance" can stretch into the parameters up to Jonker and beyond! :s13:

Have you tried the shrimp dumplings (soup) at The Chicken Rice joint in Mahkota Parade? Not available all the time, though.

yes tong sheng is quite good.

if nonya food, i usually go for indah sayang. the other one which is few shops away, i dont find it nice.

korean food can try daorae bbq. not bad and value for money.

mcquek satay culup. not the best but ok.

newton hawker center. only open for dinner. rojak char kuay teow laksa or jian nasi lemak bbq wings chee cheong fun.... the works...

indian food and malay food can try the mamak beside straits hotel. evening got satay kebab and other food. morning is the usual roti canai...

oh if u are in jonker and u want to eat indian food, go to selvam. power. very nice curry. ordered 4 egg and onion prata, thosai masala, 4 teh tarik, 1 goats milk, 4 vadi... i think less than rm25...

agree. best if u drive. can go to more places to makan. eat what the locals eat there. nicer food and much lower in prices.

eg chicken rice balls. drive to batu beremdam makan. u pay much less for a slightly better quality chicken with other dishes compared with eating it at jonker or palawan area. no kidding. shiokadooooo

Agree. Locals hardly visit the city centre. Too much traffic, too many tourists. Venture a little further to the residential areas. I make my way to Malim Jaya and Taman Asean.

if u r parking in chong sek, no need coupon, but u need to eat there. try to get there before 530 or 6pm, cos that place is popular.

coupons can be bought at many places. 711, chinese medical halls, mama shop... if u get a ticket for not displaying coupon, just drive to melaka sentral to pay the fine within a day or 2. talk to them politely, they will either waive or give u good discount. been there done that.

I park at the costa del open space. :o 6RM. :o Today just saw a carpark warren catching people. :o

While in Melaka, don't pay extra for breakfast in hotel unless it's already included in the hotel room charge. Lots of good food in the streets! :)

I wish i have car to eat outside the city but me no own car. Selvam is good, ate before but it is near jonker area at the entrance to bukit china right? Any suggestion to add to my food list down below? max walking range is end of jonker walk or near hatten city area. Planning to stay 3d2n

Morning: Pin Pin Hiong (mee sua), Restoran Sin Hin (mee goreng)
Lunch: Hoe Kee (chicken rice), Wok & Pan(western food)
Dinner: Daorae(korean bbq), Tong Sheng(cheese beehoon)

For newton hawker centre, is it easy to walk there or need taxi?
For nonya food, which is the best?

i think newton hawker center is about same dist between hatten and wok n pan. do note that there is another newton food court that is beside or nearer to makota parade. that one sells mostly malay food. so so only. i wont waste time going there.

for deserts, can try some of the shops in makota parade. there is a shop that sells crepes. not bad.

there are 3 or more nonya restorans near hatten, ie on jalan medeka. tried all 3 of them before. and I'll only return to eat at indah sayang if i want nice nonya food in that area.

been to jonker a few times. nothing much except crowd. lolol. i tried teochew porridge buffet at bayview hotel early this year. not sure if they still have it. very reasonable given the variety, ie 40 over times to order from the menu. the quality is not bad also.
rm26 for adults... best part was senior citizens pay only half the price. i think it was rm14 or something. very reasonable.

i like those satay at hawker centers. i think can still find rm0.60 per stick. chicken pork daging... the peanut gravy is very shiok too.

agreed. for me, the only hotel breakfast buffet that is good is hatten. big spread over 100 items... just drive around and look for breakfast.

mostly rm4 and up for a plate or bowl of noodles. but some of those hawker centers and coffeeshops can still find rm3.50 char kuay teow wanton mee curry mee whatever mee...

also like this particular dim sum coffeeshop... used to be on jln gajah berang but they relocated to a a bigger and cleaner coffeeshop 2 years ago. been eating there since 7+ years ago... per item from rm2 onwards. law maikai, xiu mai, lotus leaf rice, carrot cake, tua pau, char siu pau.... all items freshly made daily... 3 person makan until kio tolong for about rm40+... cannot find this kinda pricing even in jb... lol
