Did you call the front desk of the Double Tree? I passed by. It was not closed. Are there plans to close?

The problem is it expired during the 2 year down time.

Also the agent no longer working there also.

thanks for the information.
quite like the location and used to stay there... sad is gone.
I liked Novotel, decent rooms and location and value for money. The China tour groups used to stay there too.

The hotel is still there but rebranded, no longer Novotel. Reviews on tripadvisor are poor, pics look just like the old Novotel, which means the new operator didn't even bother renovating.

Looks like it is now the Noble Resort Hotel. 1 month ago, I stayed opposite. It certainly did not look like it was in operation. No lights at all. Peeling paint. External facade maintenance was not kept up.

I stayed at the Imperial Heritage Hotel for a night last weekend. It is opposite the Equatorial, if you do not mind it being on the far side of Dataran Pahlawan. $62 on a last-minute deal for a Sunday night. Clean and large room. Dedicated multi-storey parking. Kids play facilities. Proximity to the museums, A Farmosa and St Paul's (probably not important to an old-hand like you). Close to the many food options at Melaka Raya. Also the coach terminal at Hatten Square. Nothing to complain about, unless you want a swimming pool.
Hi @beanstalk6 , is the carpark ok? Read reviews that there are limited lots. Not sure if I shld drive there.

The carpark attached to the hotel has a reasonable number of parking lots, maybe 5 floors of 20. There are many other carparks in the vicinity. An open air adjacent, and the parallel parking all around. Hatten and Pahlawan just across the road. Look up Google Streetview for yourself

I went in June. Although it is SG and MY school holidays, Jonker night market was crowded but not as crowded as pre-pandemic days. The traffic on NSHW was horrible there and back, should be ok now. I drove on NSHW yesterday to Kluang, wasn't as bad as in June.

Use Waze. When I navigated in JB, it told me to exit Ayer Keroh. Nearer to Melaka, it told me to exit at Jasin. The Ayer Keroh side can be very jam on weekends, so having live traffic updates is certainly helpful.

Got once I used waze in JB, it led me to some kampong house and told me to use the road behind his house which is impossible cos I gotta drive into his house to exit from the back door.. even the owner was stunned to see me appearing in front of his house ...😂😂😂

Was this day time?
I kana the other day at night. Waze wanted me to take an exit that has no lights and none of the cars were exiting it. I ignored Waze and let it reroute. Took the next exit where there were more cars. I'm laid back when I'm in Malaysia, use more petrol or add 15 mins to my journey is ok.
I wouldn't turn into the small kampong lanes at night even if Waze brought me there. JB still ok, can agar agar know the direction and how to get to my destination via the big roads.

Night time.. about 6-7pm+.. usually I'm ok with JB roads but I still on waze and Google map to see if there's any delay or accident.. that time I was going to an industrial place for the first time so I switched on waze, sekali bring me to the kampong roads hahahahhaa..

But melaka waze and google map is on point.. what i realized is waze will always bring me back of building and Google will bring to the front of building

Did a trip over a normal weekend 2 weeks ago. (Though it was an Islamic holiday weekend in Malaysia)

Road traffic is really okay outside the peak hours. Even when there is jam on sat and sun, it just add another 10 - 20 mins to the driving time.

so either I detour using google maps, or avoid the mahkota or jonker area.

I find that food outside those zones are better and less crowded. Except for modern coffee. Good ones like backlane and humble ground are found inside jonker. Just be there before 10:30 to find a parking lot in jonker area
