Where to stay other than jonker street? Cos jonker street full of PRC tourists. And very crowded.
Oh, so I'm not the only one who noticed those PRC tourists. I was staying at Casa del Rio across the river where tourist coaches let their passengers alight. Wah, the noise that traveled across while I was having breakfast... :s22:

Anyway, have "moved" to DoubleTree by Hilton after C19. Unforgettable breakfast spread there. (y)(y)

Courtyard by Marriot was recommended before too, I might try that some time. :lick:

I followed a page, and it mentioned that Melaka has closed most of the roads in the old city during the past 2 weekends.

I wonder how to get to Hatten? Only by the Jalan Abd Aziz flyover? I also see three page mentioned that bridge also got bad traffic. Unmoving type. :o

Can't access from Jalan Merdeka, Jalan Tun Khalil Yaacob side? You referring to Jalan Syed Abdul Aziz then Jalan Melaka Raya 1? Or turn into the small road before it?

From what I could recognise from the pictures shared, even before Bandar Hilar from Red Building roundabout and Jalan Merdeka were all closed to vehicles.

Think the Malaccans were pissed that the city government did it to 'help' tourists. Not sure how it really benefits tourists when the vehicles they are in also cannot move through these roads. :o

Ah, their vehicle-free exercise...

For the New Year :

What they hope to achieve :

The trail run on the weekend road closures began on Friday (Dec 22). It involved Jalan Istana, Jalan Mahkamah, Jalan Gereja, Lorong Gereja, Jalan Laksamana, as well as parts of Jalan Tun Khalil Yaakob and Jalan Merdeka.

The streets will be closed for six hours during weekends.

Discussions still going on :

i bookED Hotel PURI

should i also look for elsewhere?
When I was staying in Casa del Rio, I saw some guests leaving Hotel Puri onto the road in between. If still the same, can say still quite safe coz they've no reason to go there. But if you're going to walk from there to the shopping mall across the river, then you'll have to pass through the lot of them hanging around the area for photos, alighting and boarding their coaches.

Strangely, back then I saw more of them across the river rather than in Jonker Street itself

I think every day in or out will have problem as you need to cross the river. And the worst traffic is at the bridge. Unless you going to travel within Jonker most of the time.

Yes, got to hear their noises every breakfast time and navigate through their groups whenever I wanted to head to the malls. However, while staying at Casa del Rio I could walk all the way to around what's now the Courtyard Marriott, and The Shore, back to room to throw my shopping bags, then head to Dataran Pahlawan, Mahkota Parade and beyond. Only Grabbed when I went to AEON.

When I started to stay at DoubleTree by Hilton, it's Grab everywhere except when I hopped on Hatten's shuttle bus, and that one time when I walked all the way to Hatten.

Visited last Friday.

Accomodation: courtyard. Big and clean rooms. Good service by staff. Hotel breakfast is average. Reasonable pricing. 15 min walk to jonker st.

Jonker: crowd was ok. Stalls selling same thing as every other night market.

Malls: visited mahkota parade and Megamall (many vacant units). Typical malls in Malaysia.

Any nice Airbnb Studio? Prefer Airbnb as can have windows open, balcony and high floor view. Hotels normally cannot open window and smaller.
