You Cannot Be Defeated!

But You, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, and the One who lifts my head.
—Psalm 3:3

No matter what we are going through, we need to take our eyes off the situation and look instead to King Jesus, who ascended and sits at the Father’s right hand in heaven. When we choose to look beyond our natural circumstances and fix our gaze upon the eternal God who created us, we will be transformed from glory to glory. All the events of our lives, good and bad, will be used to change us into His likeness.

We cannot be defeated! If we stay faithful and committed, looking to Messiah, He will cause us to ascend over all our difficulties. We will overcome every trouble and trial. Whatever we face, whether “tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword…in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.”

Beloved one, you are a winner, and your victory is assured. Dedicate your entire life to Messiah Jesus. Keep studying His Word and talking to Him. Keep surrounding yourself with other believers who enrich your faith. Discard anything that could distract, deter, or dissuade you from the truth. Avoid things that create opportunities for the enemy to speak to you and overwhelm you. If you continue to praise God, declaring that you are victorious in Messiah Jesus, you will continually find yourself triumphing over every situation.

A Heavenly Mindset

Set your minds on the things that are above, not on the things that are on earth.
—Colossians 3:2

As believers in Yeshua, we must live for the age to come. We cannot allow our temporal circumstances or how people treat us to define who we are in God or distract us from having a heavenly perspective. We must set our focus on eternity even in the midst of tests and trials.

We must keep our eyes on the eternal prize. This world is not our home. Like Abraham, we are called to set our sights on the majestic city “whose architect and builder is God.” We must continually look toward heaven. All our thoughts and actions should be filtered through an eternal mindset.

Beloved one, we are not of this world, and it can never satisfy us. Let us stop trying to gratify ourselves with the fleeting pleasures of this life and instead live each day realizing that we are on a supernatural journey. Eternal life is our calling, and heaven is our destination. As we age, we see more and more how temporary our earthly life is. Many of us have family and friends who have already passed away. So let’s live for what will endure. Soon Messiah will return, and for those who have lived for Him, our final home will be in a place where God will wipe every tear from our eyes and there will no longer be any suffering, pain, or death.

Walk in the Light

But if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
— 1 John 1:7

To walk in the Light is to constantly reach out to Jesus. As we follow Yeshua, the Light of the world, we will be cleansed of our sin through His blood, the living Word, and the Spirit. As a result, we will find ourselves being brought into deeper and deeper communion with God.

It’s the concept of similarity and dissimilarity at work. Consider, for example, an elephant and a mouse. They have nothing in common. They are dissimilar and have no relational connection. But an elephant and another elephant can be in relationship because they’re alike. In fact, elephant mothers train their young to survive. Similarly, as we reach out to Jesus and He cleanses us of sin, we are being transformed into His image and actually become His friends. Yeshua said, “No longer do I call you slaves…but I have called you friends.” The more we become like Jesus, the closer we will feel to Him and the more satisfying our relationship with God will be. It is not enough just to know God in heaven; we must also know Him from within. As we are transformed into His likeness, we experience unity with the One who is the treasure of life and the fountain of many waters.

THE LAMB OF GOD

Seeing Yeshua approaching, John the Baptist declared, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”
— John 1:29

When John the Baptist referred to Jesus as the Lamb of God, he was pointing back to the first Passover when the children of Israel were delivered out of Egypt through the blood of a lamb. Through divine revelation, John understood that Yeshua would become the final and ultimate sacrificial Lamb for all mankind.

Yeshua’s last supper with His disciples before going to the cross was a Passover meal, where He foretold that He would die for us, ushering in a new covenant in His blood. It was no coincidence that Yeshua was crucified on Passover. God preordained this to declare to the world that Yeshua’s sacred blood fulfilled the ancient Passover miracle.

But consider this: it was not enough for the ancient Israelites to simply collect the lambs’ blood in basins. They had to personally apply it to the doorposts of their homes. Likewise, it is not enough just to know Messiah shed His blood and died for our sins. We must personally receive Him into our hearts and follow Him so that His blood will be applied to our individual lives.

Beloved one, although Yeshua died two thousand years ago, His blood is yet alive, bringing salvation and deliverance to all who commit their lives to Him. When we are fully committed to Him, His blood covers our lives.

SET APART

Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God.
— Romans 1:1, emphasis added

Even as Paul was “set apart,” so too as followers of Yeshua, you and I are called to be separate. We are to think and behave differently from the world around us. In fact, Scripture says we are not of this world.

We have been selected to live apart from this world and to bring truth and the message of eternity to those whom God brings into our lives. Of course, our words will sometimes evoke a negative response. Think about Paul. He was beaten, ridiculed, and maligned because he was set apart. In fact, he wrote most of the New Testament while in prison. Consider also the people of Israel. They have been persecuted and hated from the beginning of their history. We should expect the same, and we must be willing to suffer the reproach of our calling. “Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.”

Paul knew Yeshua in the power of His resurrection, but he also knew what it meant to be rejected and feel lonely because of his witness for Him. Beloved one, this is also part of our call because we are set apart. But be encouraged; you will be rewarded for all that you suffer because of your love for Him! “Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
