oh.. wa.. abit ma fan hor.. haha... now taiwan is v cold... thats why i scared about this thing... any easiler and free idea??? or just dont care it???? btw once i reach hotel at night where should i place my camera???:s13::s13:

just get a few good quality ziplocs lah. where got "ma fan"? If you want to carry-on buying cameras then you follow dxboy method lah:s13:

seriously, these are what I would do too. It seems to be the easiest way out. Last time i went Taiwan in late Nov, not as cold like in Dec, but one or 2 night it gets pretty cold, so when i enter or leaving my hotel, i just wrap my camera under my jacket. after a while then i take out for shooting or storing, no problem too.

One cheap way is to have a ziploc. put your cam inside the ziploc whenever you are entering from the cold outdoor into the warm indoor. Let the condensation form on the outside of the ziploc. That would mean you have to let the camera inside the bag to reach ambient temperature before removing it from the zipbloc.

Google for more details.

er... can camera bag prevent the condensation from my dslr??? like when i am at cold outdoor.. then i go in to warm indoor and i store my dslr inside??? for it to adjust temperture?? can??? :s13::s13: cos i also planning to buy one camera bag...

wow i like ur last picture!!!! is damm nice and detail!! haha.. waa pro teach me.. :) the settings?

No la I am not pro la...
ralliart12 had also answered the setting that I used.

Lemme try to interpret, based on the last shot's Exif data:

Camera Model: Canon EOS 7D
Image Date: 2009:11:28 19:12:05
Focal Length: 17.0mm
Exposure Time: 30.000 s
Aperture: f/18.0
ISO equiv: 100

Step 1: frame e shot (composition)

Step 2: Close down the aperture to very small, super small, this will make the reflection "smooth & streaming". On a related note: a small aperture is how one will create those "starburst" effect from street lamps, etc

Step 3: Increase the exposure time/slow down shutter speed until very long: compensate for the super-small aperture, you want to let the light come in through the small hole for as long as possible, otherwise u dun compensate with this long exposure time, the small aperture will make the photo very dark.

Step 4: Cap the ISO at 100. Too high & that night/evening shot will be more noisy than my neighbour.

Of course, a tripod is critical, the huge sensor of the 7D helps immensely as well. Can the photo owner clarify if my train of thought is more or less correct?

Yup you are there. =)
To add on further the nightshot is a combination of 3 images using AEB to Blend Exposure

Yeah, it's a 50 1.4 prime len. Now still charging.
Need to save up more $$$ for some other len later.

Very happy with the camera so far. No regret.

Cool, can take very low light shooting and create good BOKEH effects.

hii all... today got 2 new picture taken.. by iso 100.. auto mode.. haha.. comments!!! i am still a dslr beginner,, i need some tips!:s13:

Look better. =)
Some additional input from me, ISO 100 a bit too low for indoor and low light environment.
No sure what your shutter speed and Aperture setting as you EXIF is not retain in your images.

That's the reason why I buy this len. Let me try out first. I am still very new to this camera setting.

A tripod is still best for taking night scene. Too bad, my current tripod, Slik Sprint Pro 2 might be too light for my D700. :(

Let me tried when I am off again.

Your camera need to keep in room temperature so u need to put in something to keep it warm. If not, camera mechanism might not be working.

Note that battery drain off faster in cold weather & when you bring your camera out to shoot in cold weather, after shooting, it's good that you transit from cold to air con temp to bring down your camera temp. slowly so to preventing len condensation ( that's what happen to my Turkey trip ).

I love taiwan :D

Biz trip is a bit harder. Especially your host could be with you all the time, it could be embarrassing if you run off to shoot every now and then. Not so professional like that. But who knows, you will still have those opportunities.

Or you extend your stay there, shoot until shiok shiok then come back:s13:

Take your time to explore look forward to more of your shots.
The prime lens that you are having now is really good for shooting low light...

The pix that are took at the link below is using my Canon prime lens 50mm f1.4 USM

All handheld shoot. I guess yours can do better since D700 is a FF and could shoot higher ISO. :D

sharing some of my noob shots from bornfire~

I guess my host is fine... In fact they are more on users level. :)

I could only shoot after office hour... =
Cos I am assigned to be at Taiwan with regards on some remote site office issues.
