oh... er.. cos i all using handheld.. going buy a tripod soon!!!! is a NEED MAN! :yawn:

It would be good that you could provide EXIF info so that we know wat the setting when you shoot.

ISO 100, tat should explain the under-exposure. It was not being compensated by the shutter speed and aperture. With you hand-holding the cam and 5s for shutter speed? There's no way thus the out-of-focus result and F11? Should have opened it up more but even though aperture alone is set to max, there's no way to obtain a decent exposure level in tat night scene wif tat iso and hand-holding a 5s shutter speed. Yea, a tripod is the way to go!

Seem like you enjoy taking nightshot also. =)
For the moment, why not consider take more dayshot or sunset before getting your tripod? So as to enjoy, explore and understand your camera more?
Slowly go into nightshot once you have your tripod. :)

One of the very first sunset that I took:-

You should be fine to take this shot without tripod.
ISO 100, f/9.5, 1/180 sec
