OpenElec will confine you to Kodi only, which is great for streaming movies, videos, tv, etc.

You wont be able to get Netflix

Setting up and configuring Kodi for the first time can be perplexing. PM to me your email address and I will send you some guidelines. Again, google Youtube for tutorials.

For those who don't have a media box but would like to try out KODI on your Windows PC, you can install TVMC, a special custom build of KODI that comes preconfigured with some of the best video add-ons. Its a breeze to install.

I don't think you can select or change the subtitles if it is embedded.

I use English subtitles which I need to manually download (and select) within Kodi.

Kodi is like a GUI. You need to load it with repositories which load the apps, which then allows you to stream from different sources.

I tried many, and found the best is fusion.tvaddons.ag

Once, it is loaded and configured, just use Video addon - Genesis. This one is amazing, all kinds of movies and tv shows you can get in high quality. You can even configure it to auto-load subtitles and even auto-play within Genesis.

Otherwise, you can get subtitles addon, the better one is from opensubtitles.org

Even though I'm using android box now, I still use Kodi most of the time. The other apps are just not very useful for me.

So many possibilities, but at least try and get your power supply to deliver about 2amp.

You can use the soft power button to shutdown the Pi 2 on OpenElec. However, you can't turn it back on until you recycle the power manually using the power adaptor.

So it's missing a "remote" on/off controller.

If you had a tv with usb port, you can try using it to power the Pi 2, so you can power it on/off together with the tv.

For me, I had a Philips soundbar HTL5140 with usb port.
I connect a cable from that usb port to power the Pi 2.
Now it works like a power on/off remote control when I shut down or power up the soundbar.
However, I lose the use of the usb port input to the soundbar.
Surprisingly it works well, since the video hdmi output goes back into the soundbar.

Using the tv/soundbar usb port to power the Pi 2, you also save on buying a power adaptor.

Yuri, with your Pi2 powered by the soundbar USB, do you have any stability problems. The TV and soundbar USBs normally output to 1amp; many experts have said the Pi2 should be powered with 2amp.

I still manually switch off my Pi2 with is powered by a 2amp power supply. I have a toggle switch between the power supply and the Pi2.
