Yuri, with your Pi2 powered by the soundbar USB, do you have any stability problems. The TV and soundbar USBs normally output to 1amp; many experts have said the Pi2 should be powered with 2amp.

I still manually switch off my Pi2 with is powered by a 2amp power supply. I have a toggle switch between the power supply and the Pi2.

I read your post about having 2amp ps. I used that too initially.

Then I tried connecting it my soundbar usb port, while looking for a way to cycle power it on. Strangely it does not have any problems whatsoever. I watched whole movies and tv series for a few hours with that power.

Maybe you can try that too.

Sometimes, I use brute force to shut down soundbar while the movie is still playing. The Pi 2 still came back without problem later on.

CEC Adapter

In case anyone didn't realize, there's a Pulse-eight CEC adapter built right into your Rasp Pi.

http://kodi.wiki/view/CEC

You can control your tv/avr/amplifire or some other devices.

I was able to shutdown Kodi and it auto-signal to shutdown my Philips HTL 5140 soundbar at the same time. They are connected together.

Your success probably depends on the device type, hdmi cable and configuration.

To configure, go to System->Settings
System->Input devices -> Peripherals
CEC Adapter -> Enabled
The rest of the settings you may have to trial and error.

I bought from Element 14 (Singapore) the case and the 2A power supply (highly recommended; came with multi adapters for 2 and 3 pins power sockets) for a total of about S$23, free postage/delivery (together with the Pi 2)

I use my Samsung Galaxy 4 power adapter. Works just fine!

Recently, had a problem with Genesis playing video.
It's always like "no stream available" error...appears to be network error.
I thought maybe the power supply. So I put a 2amp power supply on it...still the same problem with playing video.

Finally, I took another SDcard, format it and reload with openElec, put back the low current power supply..and now it works.

The problem seemed to be due to some unknown corruption with the other SDcard or possibly overheating, but doesn't appear to be power supply issue.

I think the power supply issue may become a factor if you fully occupy the 4 usb slots. Now, I only have a usb wireless kb connected and using wired ethernet.

Power supply problems are normally visible on screen - rainbow colour alert (if I remember correctly).

Your SD card corruption could be due to use of your soundbar to switch off the Pi2?

Yeah..perhaps it's the way I shutdown the Pi2.

I just received a usb meter and did some measurement:

My soundbar usb was putting out 5.12V and the Pi2 was only consuming 0.15A. That's why it didn't have problem.

I guess some device may put out lower voltage and perhaps get into some trouble.

Example, after measurement, my PC usb was putting out only 4.5V. When I plug in a Seagate Freego hardisk, it would not work.

When I move that hd to my notebook putting out 4.85V, it worked...and current consumed was quite high at 0.5A

This usb meter has proven quite useful to track down that wobbly usb.

There are several excellent Kodi addons available in recent weeks; check them out on YouTube.

Guys,

I recently brought along my Raspberry Pi2(running on Openelec) on my vacation.
However, when I tried to connect it via Wifi, the hotel needs me to login before I can utilized the free Wifi.
I was wondering if any of you guys encounter the same issue like me and how do you resolve it?
I understand that we can actually load our Raspberry Pi2 with some other platform to access websites(and login to hotel internet) before running the Openelec.
Any info will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi jchoong,

I do have my Wifi dongle attached during my vacation.
The problem is when you connect our iPad/ laptop to the hotel network, they would link you to their site for you to sign in as a hotel guest.
On Openelec, although I can find the hotel network, I am unable to "go to" their website to key in the required info to log on.

I was wondering if we can install a platform(that allows us to access the internet) and Openelec on the same SDcard?
This way, I can connect to the hotel network, make sure I am online before opening up Openelec.

On Kodi, under System, you can configure proxy server for username and password for Internet access.

For those hotel that needs you to connect to their website first, it would be difficult. ..bcuz they probably won't want to help you.

This is called captive portal, basically you need a web browser to be able to get authenticated on the wifi network. After searching briefly, there seems to be not much solution for Raspberry Pi, there is a chromium browser for OpenElec but only x86 systems are supported. One person mention using Web Viewer addon in Kodi to do that, you might want to try : http://kodi.wiki/view/Add-on:Web_Viewer. Another option is to use an Android stick for travelling, Kodi/Browser/VPN are all supported.

Will it work if you have 2 SD cards - one with NOOBS and raspian on it (that you can use to log into the hotel wifi); and the second one with OpenElec on it. After log in, switch off, insert the OpenElec SD and reboot. The hotel wifi will recognise your Pi2 MAC and allow you to log in automatically?
