Thank you for your post. I've recently ordered a cheap android box for iptv, but now I've ordered the PI2, enclosure and power supply from element14 as well. =:p
I like to have "better" control over the box and certainly Raspberry PI is more supported than the off-brand china box.

My bad. Btw, the Odroid C1 can use wifi dongle? Roughly how much for a full set up(hardwares)?
Also, OSMC i went to their site is the Raspbmc. Is it a big upgrade of the software?

Guys, I got the Wifi working. I installed the config wizard and rebooted. Went into Openelec and got it working.
Meantime, anyway to watch Live TV from Navi-X? Most of it are not working.
Vdub25 says "DOWN" when I managed to install it this morning(yday it says unable to connect).
I was hoping to catch live TV when I bought the RPI 2. But now seems not gonna happen after I read some info online regarding the "RTMP".

Guys, I have tried out my Wifi dongle(Adafruits) from E14 over the weekend. On Friday nite, I was able to finish a 1080p movie without any buffering issue. But on Saturday nite, the whole 2hrs I was on the system, it just buffer and unable to watch anything(after 45secs, it start to buffer n hang). On Sunday nite, the buffering issue was again happening so I decided to attach my Lan to try out and it went well throughout.
I know that Lan is the way to go, but this will mean a long cable lying across my living room whenever the Pi 2 is on. Is there anyway to improve my Wifi connection? My router is just 2m away from my Pi 2.
I am currently on SIngtel 200mb fibre.
Thanks for your advice in advance.

Hi Jchoong, may I know if your airmouse is good and responsive? I used my wireless logitech mouses over the weekend and found it sluggish. In addition, my Pi 2 is unable to detect my LG TV remote. I am considering getting the same mouse or one of those keyboard+mouse pad(Rii brand). If not any expert here can advise what my options are? Thanks.

Homeplugs are relatively cheap and easy to use. I run a set of Aztech homeplugs for a Lan connection (and avoid the cable from router to Pi 2).

The inexpensive air-mouse that I bought from AliExpress does a decent job. However, air-mouses generally don't work that smoothly on the Pi 2.

If you do type a lot on the Pi 2, then perhaps you want to purchase a keyboard+mouse package. When I bought my Asus Chromebox from Amazon, I also ordered a set of Chrome keyboard+mouse package and they work very well on my Pi 2.

I tried CEC on my TV remote some months back but did not like it - probably too many buttons on my remote!

Most likely your neighbour is using the same channel as you and his wifi is super powerful. If you have an android phone, install wifi analyser on the phone to look at the spectrum and change the frequency of the wifi on the router to a quieter one. If you don't have android phone, can also use trial and error method, change the router's wifi to another channels to see if it is better. You need only a few Mbps for 1080p video.

Ok for those newbies like me, who wants to buy a Pi 2 purely to use as iptv box, here's what I did and hope its helpful to you :

Order online from element14
a. Pi 2 (with SD card loaded)
b. Power supply for Pi 2
c. Casing for Pi 2
Total about $80

Takes a couple of days after ordering, before they dispatch using 3rd party. Dispatch is quick, I received it the following day.

Taking care of static discharge, slide the card into the casing.
There's 2 tabs for the card to go below and then pressed down onto the catch. Push the cover firmly over until it locks. No tools are required. SD card is inserted from outside the box.

Get ready usb keyboard and mouse, usb bluetooth adapter (if available), hdmi cable to connect to the tv. Insert the SD card in. Then plug the power supply to the micro-usb connector and power on.

Pi 2 will power up and you'll see lots of text.
This is where you need to guess what to do next.
You might need to do a couple of reboots.

If it tries to install Raspbian, let it finished.

Then reboot and you'll see a screen with a button to press "Shift" for recovery or something.
Press the "Shift" key will get you into a GUI where you select the right OS.
If Raspian is ticked, unticked it and the rest.
Ensure only "OpenElec for Pi 2" is selected. There's OpenElec for Pi 1. Make sure not to tick that one.

After that, it will install by itself and the next thing you'll see is Kodi. You don't have to bother with Raspbian and other linux-like OS.

Configure Kodi to your hearts content. But I use http://fusion.tvaddons.ag

Yuri2 - thanks for sharing; very helpful procedure to install OpenElec onto the Pi 2.

One caution - after switching off OpenElec, wait for about 10 secs for the Pi 2 to completely finish all the tasks (when the green LED stops to blink). On a couple of occasions when I was impatient and shut off the power too early, I corrupted a couple of micro SD cards!

Btw, you can save a few $ if you don't buy the preloaded SD card which I presume has the NOOB app installed. NOOB is available on the Raspberry Pi website for free download.

Thanks for the warning.

When I bought from element14, the only Pi2 available was the one with the SD card. Without SD version, must wait....I can't..=:p

Anyway, the difference is about $8, nothing much to save...and then you still need a dedicated SD card for PI...unless you have plenty lying around, that's a different story.

I believe this seller don't ship to Spore, which means you need to use a forwarder eg VPost. The freight and handling costs will be significant.

I still feel local sources (Element 14 and RS Singapore) are your best bet - fast delivery and reasonable prices.

of course, more is cheaper

If buy 5, the shipping is $25 = $5/ piece
If buy 10, the shipping is $35 = $3.5 /piece

For those who want to add a portable hardisk plug into the pi usb port, you have to increase usb current. This is done by the following:

1. On bootup, press "Shift" button to go into Recovery
2. Scroll down to the OpenElec P2 (Installed)
3. Press "e" or Edit Config button
3. config.txt page, scroll down to the button and add a last line "max_usb_current=1"
4. Press Ok and Exit(Esc)

My OpenElec/Kodi micro SD card got corrupted again, so I took the opportunity to install OSMC.

Initially I used the OSMC stock UI but found it slow and confusing. So I moved back to Confluence which I am familiar with.

OSMC's Kodi runs about the same as OpenElec/Kodi. Didn't notice any significant difference.

However I had problems switching off OSMC Kodi - the Exit or Power Off options did not work and I had to switch off the Pi 2. Tried 3 times and same problem. Luckily the micro SD card did not get corrupted.
