Ok for those newbies like me, who wants to buy a Pi 2 purely to use as iptv box, here's what I did and hope its helpful to you :
Order online from element14
a. Pi 2 (with SD card loaded)
b. Power supply for Pi 2
c. Casing for Pi 2
Total about $80
Takes a couple of days after ordering, before they dispatch using 3rd party. Dispatch is quick, I received it the following day.
Taking care of static discharge, slide the card into the casing.
There's 2 tabs for the card to go below and then pressed down onto the catch. Push the cover firmly over until it locks. No tools are required. SD card is inserted from outside the box.
Get ready usb keyboard and mouse, usb bluetooth adapter (if available), hdmi cable to connect to the tv. Insert the SD card in. Then plug the power supply to the micro-usb connector and power on.
Pi 2 will power up and you'll see lots of text.
This is where you need to guess what to do next.
You might need to do a couple of reboots.
If it tries to install Raspbian, let it finished.
Then reboot and you'll see a screen with a button to press "Shift" for recovery or something.
Press the "Shift" key will get you into a GUI where you select the right OS.
If Raspian is ticked, unticked it and the rest.
Ensure only "OpenElec for Pi 2" is selected. There's OpenElec for Pi 1. Make sure not to tick that one.
After that, it will install by itself and the next thing you'll see is Kodi. You don't have to bother with Raspbian and other linux-like OS.
Configure Kodi to your hearts content. But I use
