1800 is enough for most fps players...
Deathadder 3G - 1800dpi - best sensor of all razer mice
Deathadder 3.5G - 3500dpi - Much cheaper version of Mamba
Mamba - 5600dpi - Can u handle 5600dpi ? I'm still skeptical about wireless.

it is not a must but it is advisable to use one.
If u are hardcore FPS gamer, Mousepad is must.

Pros:
- better tracking
- smoother glide
- mouse feet longer

Cons:
- Cost money ($18-$80)

I personally recommend
Hard pad : Razer Destructor or Razer Sphex
Soft pad : Steelseries QCK

Hardpad with wear out mouse feet much faster that softpad.

Wear rate:
Table > Hard pad > Soft pad(almost no wear)

I got this mouse before. It was awesome initially.
Good grip if you have big palms and performance is smooth as silk.
But after a 2-3months, i quickly sold it while it's still under warranty.
Reason being:
1. The mouse scroll button started producing sounds which are irritating and i got it serviced.
2. The left rubber gripped are sticked on, which means after a while, it will peel off and for mine, it did...
Good and youtube about MAMBA and you know what i'm talking about.
3. If you are into FPS games, i recommend wired mouse but MAMBA can do both. Up to you whether want to pump in the cash or not. Also, it has longer width than normal mouse.

Currently, i'm using RAZER IMPERATOR. Best wired mouse i have used after Logitech G9. No stick on parts. Solid builds. A lot buttons. And so far, the scroll button no sound yet. Performance also smooth as silk and cost a bit less. The width is less narrow than MAMBA.

This is just my personal and frank comments. No offence to anyone! Best to try before purchase. (I bought my imperator without trying la...)

Hmmm.
Does it applies for polished aluminium mouse pad like Steelseries SX?
Cause i just switched back from 2 RAZER soft mats to this again. Hehe.

Cant comment on SX as i dont have one...
I assume that SX is the same as other hardpad but sx wont wear out like other plastic hardpad...
Steelseries stuff very EX. pocket pain...

I currently using/have
Hardpad : Destructor > 9HD = Sphex = HP Voodoo Gaming mousepad
Softpad : Qck > Goliathus Speed and Control
