Wah, that seems like a good deal. But I hate the hassle of installing cable point and whatever not. :(
Any existing cable tv point can use already so not necessary to install. Just put modem and router there. Good deal as same same as $20/mth. Wireless router so can use wifi or run a flat LAN cable from router to notebook.

Its like running wire around the house, he just run it across the living room to my study room and fix a cable point where I want it. He was supposed to install the modem and log-in for me, but I rejected since everything is not in order. So, he didn't install modem and log-in, so its a no-signup.

Over the phone, sales person told me I need to pay cash only for the cable point installation, if signup successful, then the rest will be billed to me.

Ok I understand now. So this is actually paid to the contractor guy who does the trunking. How many cable point do you have in your home? Just one? Do you intend to hook up your TV / Set top box in the study room as well? Because if you are ok with the TV just in your living room, you can just connect a wireless router near the living room. That is one way.

Just got a call from SH. The offer I got is 100 mbps, first 12 mths free, after the 5% off 39.90. Same price as the chrome book I guess. So maybe u all can try ask for 1 year waiver instead of chromebook. Mobile phone 20% discount.

How did you get this offer ? Was it a cold call from SH or you actually put in an enquiry ? I'm very interested in this offer.

Tried calling them but no luck getting the deal for the 12 mths, the sales side were pretty insistent that no ongoing promotion ... even the Chromebook have to go down to exclusive partners to sign up.

If anyone manage to get through, please share :)

Oh, so he is a contractor ah, hahaha, i don't know, he say he was from Technical side.

Anyway, don't laugh at me ah...I know I can use a router, but seriously, this tech idiot here, I am totally clueless about wireless thing, so I don't know how to use. Now I have 2 points, one in the living and one study room. I am only beginning to learn about wifi. I know wifi thing has been around donkey years, but I only started to learn as I will be w/o BB by next week.

I tried logging in at Mac and so very embarrassing, I only manage to connect but can't surf and I just found out I need to signup with telcos for a free acc and password. So, I have yet to try it out. I didn't dare ask friends bcos very paiseh lah, hahahah..

He is using cable BB and not fibre BB. No issue for cable BB.

It has been like a nightmare for some (or most?) people from what I've read and even heard from friends who personally encountered it. But at least get it stabilize and fix/address the issue first lah. So the people know about it.

Sad to see those people, especially ones with less IT knowledge, encountering all these issues upon signing up when they have been told Fibre is better, faster, etc. :(

Well to my knowledge, technically he is from Technical side lah. Authorised personnel. But from the way you say CS told you to pay him in cash, i figured he is an outsourced personnel. ...i could be wrong though... :p

Everybody has to start somewhere. Don't worry about it. I think people generally will help others if they are sincere to learn... ;)

I am a little overwhelmed now. I just signed up 25Mbps at SH authorised retailer, came back with a modem and Hubstation. Managed to hook it up and running, but...the modem only have one ethernet port. I need to hook up 2 computers, look like I have to buy a router. I googled and found this wired router LINKSYS SE2500 5 PORTS 10 / 100 / 1000MBPS SE2500-AP, is that good? or can someone recommend an idiot proof way of connecting 2 computers.

Actually you don't have to go to starhub shop to sign up. Can go to any authorised partner shops near your place to sign up. But I'm not sure whether do they have STB for the TV Lite. You might want to call and check. Also check whether is there any other charges such as registration fee, activation fee, etc.

Thanks you for mentioning, I managed to sign up 25Mbps at authorised retailer, services definitely better than SH customer service center and more patient. Get my modem and hubstation and confirm activation fee waived.

You can always call them and you set a password in case you accidentally press some button. Their E-City and hello japan still ok.
I googled and found someone who encountered problem with family member accidentally pressing the button. After many days of calling SH, you know their bad services, he finally managed to activate "Purchase Lock". So, actually no need to call SH right? Just activate "Purchase Lock" on our own, good enough right?

I tried the pin lock thing, but I realised, I can still accidentally go to the wrong channel and was prompted for a pin number, but I tried to exit from that, I wasn't able to do so. If I don't key in a pin number, my whole hubstation just cannot be used, so having a pin defeats the purpose. How ah? And so long as I don't press "Blue" button, I am safe? So long as I activate "Purchase Lock", I am safe? There are so many channels that I didn't subscribe, I only have TV Lite, I tried everything to make it show only channels that I can assess, but can't do so.

Wah! I am really overwhelmed now, TV thing and trying to connect 2 computers to modem.

I am using a HD interactive set top box so I was told to use pin and not sure did I purchase lock as I call and the person guide me thru quite long ago. I remember if I want to purchase they ask for pin. I will check my box later. If you sign 100Mbps it will come with a gateway (modem cum router).

Honestly a bit more, I think can get M1 200Mbps Fibre BB. During IT fair, there is 3-6 mths waive. Do check it out during coming IT fair.

My plan is expiring next month. :(

Troublesome part I think will be the installation. Fibre? Cable? Is it so? Coz I'm not at home most of the time. Staying elsewhere together with wife.
