There's an Asus AP router with a pair of long antennas, maybe you can consider it if all fails. My neighbor is using it and results seems good that the second level is able to receive good signals.

AP router is Access Point Router ? IS it actually a router whereby I just plug in the telephone line and internet cable to pc will do or plug a internet cable from existing router to the Asus AP router ?

Sorry I am not a tech savvy guy....wants to go the easiest way...

If it is wifi problem, I suggest buying an Access Point (AP) instead of a router. Just have to wire from router to AP using a ethernet cable if the AP uses power over ethernet. APs usually cover a greater range

Something like what he mentioned. But an Access Point is not a router. It is just different haha!

Depending on manufacturer, it may be quite easy to configure. At most just have to plug a ethernet cable in and configure the SSID and password. But do be sure to get one with power over ethernet (POE) if you want just one cable to the Access Point.

One thing to note, an AP only have at most one to two port that you need to connect the cable from the router to and broadcast Wireless signals. It does not have ports for you to plug a cable from the AP to your PC/TV. So:

FTP > ONT > ROUTER > AP (for wireless)
FTP > ONT > ROUTER > PC/TV (for wired)

Haha FTP is the fibre termination point installed on your wall and ONT is the optical network terminal provided by your internet service provider (eg singtel, M1 etc). Basically you connect your FTP to your ONT using the yello fibre cable.

Then from your ONT you connect to your router using the ethernet cable. From your router you can connect directly to your PC/TV or in this case your access point (if you intend to buy one to increase your wifi range)

ah haha okok thanks....i believe it will work on adsl router which he is currently using ? Cos like I said b4 he doesn't want to run any cable around the house thus we got the conventional package using the telephone line instead of fiber cable.

well u can just eliminate that FTP and ONT to focus on router. well I do hope that speed really isn't your concern and it's the coverage. anyway some routers do have the ability to become another ap(bridge mode).

but may I ask is ur ADSL running on WiFi G at 54mbps, that 2wire router?

I think speed to my father is ok...as long as can surf is fine. Yes his router is the 2wire but not too sure if its the wifi g @ 54mbps. Model is 2wire 2701HGV-E

Well I still think the option I know will be to relies on WiFi extender/boosts/reapter. Coverage can be good, buy speed isn't.

hmmm.....can I ask if increase the speed package will it increase coverage too ? or it has to be hand in hand..that is if speed is low so coverage is limited.

That will work on ADSL too. But will still need one cable to the AP. So might as well go for fibre if you going for the AP. Just one cable haha

haha really just one cable only so easy ? I would have got him fiber 2 years ago. It was a nightmare and few weeks of ordeal when I first signed up fiber for him 2 years ago and finally settle for just normal adsl cable. The communication inside singtel department was horrible...when subscribed said can can no problem...when technician come, said maybe can, then the wiring contractor came...said cannot....gosh... and on and on. seriously i really want to settle a easy way out and not touch or upgrade any package.

So all in all is "one cable" running from outside the home to inside hehe.
