Due to covid, the usual air con company for parents house told me that they couldn't do my first /inspection servicing for me anytime soon after i moved into my own place but promised me a date which was some time away. And I'm quite particular about doing air con servicing on time. I then saw this ad on fb and called this other company. I paid alot of money to them and they caused a few problems here and there but never actually fixed the actual problem.

2 air cons remained to be kaput and the other was leaking so we didn't turn these 3 on at all until my usual company was able to come and service for me. The guys came over, inspected throughly and told me what the issues were. They came back another day and rectified all the problems. Coming to 2 years now and no problem with any of the air cons whatsoever. Norris Engineering @ 9155-2555.

Whichever company you choose, do yourself a favour and research online either google reviews, fb, forums. Do not choose those from FB. They will offer you low price to come and see but once they enter your house they will start to take out knives to chop. I've read so many horror stories online already. I don't want to read yours. You've been warned.
My aircon been leaking since 2 years ago. Only 4 years old now. Now getting worse. 3 diff companies all can’t fix the issue. Last one saying must change all the piping. Contemplating to change everything including all the piping. I’m willing to try one more time, maybe I’ll try contacting ur recommended company and see if they can actually fix it once and for all. Now using a pail to collect all the dripping water. Maybe one night about 1 litre of water collected.
Anyone else had the same problem and managed to fix. Maybe can recommend here as well. Thanks.

hi Saternal. sorry to hear about your air con problems. i've been through what you went through cos 2 air cons were kaput and the third air was leaking like a mini waterfall which damaged the mattress and carpet. I had no choice but to find another company cos it was Covid and the next available appointment with Noris was so long away so I informed them that I was gonna engage another company. I then found this other company on facebook with a few thousand likes and comments. 2 idiots came and did some cursory check and quoted me close to $3000 and gave me assurances but the problems never went away. they can do simple servicing but they cannot handle minor and major problems.

Finally Noris had a slot for me so I whatsapped them again the list of problems and they sent their expert called Adrian. He came to the house with a ladder, removed several false ceiling and followed the piping and shone a torchlight and found the damn problem. He advised me what the issues were and gave me 2 options. One is stop-gap measure and the other is for peace of mind. The office then sent me a quotation. I've been with Noris for 4 years in 2 different houses.

After hearing my friends horror stories and reading other online and based on my own 2 experiences it seems to me that any company can do simple servicing. Some can rectify minor complications. Not many can handle major complications. I don't have air con problems because I found the best company out there for me who has proven time and time again that they are the right choice for me. However I've been conned by a car workshop here in SG. If you have any recommended workshops in Johor please share with me. Thanks.

Hi all,

Posting this long post over here as i 've just gotten my aircon servicing from Ah Hong AirCOOL (Uncle Yap) as my aircon in master bedroom had water leak a few days ago. hence tot of sharing my thoughts on the price and service.

initially thought of getting aircon service from big companies like DW aircon or SoCool Pte Ltd. but despite the high ratings shown, the latest reviews indicated in google were mostly negative. hence thought of trying my luck in various forums and that's where I've chance upon uncle yap.

Anyway, have told him about the aircon leak and that the leak is coming out from the outlet and not from the trunking nor the base of the aircon. he said that its just blockage in the drain pipe and that typical cleaning would be sufficient. Not sure what he meant by typical cleaning but i was told that he would charge 120 dollars for it. was taken aback initially by the cost since he said it was just cleaning. but nevertheless, i went ahead with it since i needed rectification for the water leak (clarified later that there is some sort of chemical contain and not just water, not sure if this is considered as chemical wash). on top of the cleaning service for the aircon in master bedroom area, had also asked him to do a normal cleaning for the other room and was told that the cost is 40 dollars.

with the cost agreed, he went ahead to unpack his tools and equipment. was rather impress that he has a heavy duty vacuum (Brand Karcher) to suck the drain pipe, portable handheld jet spray and self made DIY Drip tray with hose connected to drain away dirty water.

Nevertheless, the method to clean the aircon in the master bedroom was rather unorthodox as he doesn't dismantle the unit (e.g. whole evaporator coil or blower) as oppose to other aircon service company. what was done was just using the pressurised jet spray gun to spray off the dirt residing within the evaporator coil and blower and had the vacuum to suck the drain pipe from the end point. Previous encounter with gain city was that they dismantle the whole unit and wash. not sure why it wasn't dismantle but i guess it was to prevent unwanted incidental refrigerant leak if dismantle and reinstalling evaporator coil after cleaning, and, also partly that he is unsure on how to dismantle Fujitsu brand aircon as he is constantly saying how he doesn't really like Fujitsu as the design of the unit are always hard to pry open (he is no 1 supporter for Mitsubishi)

Anyway was slightly disappointed when he started to use the jet spray gun as a good portion of the water was splashed all over the wall and dripping from the back of the aircon unit and down to the floor (drip tray didn't really work as it was hung to capture dirty water from the aircon outlet) but wasn't really bothered since it was cleaned up after all was done.

with everything done, he use pressurised air to blow dry the unit and followed by clean cloth wipe down. with the master bedroom unit done, i quickly glance at the aircon unit. although the coil and blower seems to be clean, the inner part of the aircon chassis was stuck with bits of dirt sticking on it

although unit is not entirely clean, but it somehow resolve the water leak issue (had blast the aircon at 18 degree with full fan speed for 1 hour to try see if there was any leak).

with the unit in master bed room done, he went ahead with the cleaning of the next unit. This is where i am very surprise because how he clean the next unit was only to fill up two 1.5 litres of tap water and pour into the bottom portion of the evaporator coil, allowing water to flow down the aircon drip pan and into the drain pipe. followed by a brief of jet spraying at the bottom portion of the evaporator coil and the blower. cleaning only lasted 5 mins at max as opposed to the master bedroom unit which probably lasted 15 mins. the rationale given for such method was to flush down the dirt while having vacuum to suck out the dirt ah the end of the drain pipe.

Anyway this is all to it. personally I'm not sure if the price is justifiable for the overall cleanliness and the content of service provided but at least water leak is resolve (hopefully he did help to resolve it, gonna observe for the next few months though). I'm also not sure if such cleaning service is considered a norm. Uncle Yap is overall quite chatty and nice person. i cant say for sure about the technical knowledge he possess as he doesn't talk in technical details when i probe him on various aircon typical issues and components.

There are no good aircon companies. Good can turn bad, and bad can become worse. It will be how we interact and manage the company that determines the outcome now. Just expecting to be lucky with good installs or reliable repairs is playing russian roulette.

Essentially because it’s un-regulated. So there are no rules. Especially when your unit stops working after it’s been serviced.

Think with the gst increase and labour shortage, the better aircon companies cherry-pick their customers. To be fair, there is still quite a lot of good aircon companies. From my experience, if you engage one where is boss is the guy doing the servicing or installation, likely the experience will be better

How much is the refrigerant (R410A) pressure normally? And when do we need to top it up?
Around 120psi ( running 1clean indoor unit only ) ask yr maintenance guys to show u the gas meter reading before u agreed to top up gas... many got cheated... also can measure the air temp if u get around 18deg mean no gas top up needed.. Aircon guy should hv a laser machine to measure the supply air temp ( remember the remote control must set to <18deg )

if the aircond no leak... until u die also no need top up gas....

Humble experience

Managed to find one friend's uncle who does aircon cleaning for quite sometime. he is friendly and pretty easy to make appointment. They never upsell and give honest comments which is something I like, overall my third time washing with them. He speaks mandarin better so do speak in chinese lol

Mr Yap: 90291655
Air Hong aircool

Just want to Bumped up for this nice couple.
I been using them for years. Recently I engaged them again and through conversations, realised they not getting much customers as they are not IT savvy and they are also have some age..

But the uncle is very honest and price is really affordable..
I hope ppl can help this old couple and try it out yourself.. share them to other if they are good. :)

Wa i realised you referring to the same couple i used. Did they use sheets to cover up your aircon nearby ? They did for me.

I ever asked. He say pressure spray is so much easier and cleaner than chemical these days.. he used do chemical wash too, i think more expensive given that he has to tear down the unit and wash. From price prospective, if he still clean well and no block. i think is ok leh.. By the way, uncle is close to 70 aldy.. so i think he clean abit slower compare to others but no issue for me.

Personal take... Chemical wash or gas pump is really just another way to charge you..

For normal basic servicing, 4 units performed by 1 worker, what’s the typical duration ?

mine can be as fast as 20mins.
Is it normal?

1 unit every 5 mins seems a bit too fast tbh

my most recent was about 30 mins for 2 units, by 2 guys.

There are many that always associate aircon not cold to the need to topup gas. This is not always the case.

The aircon is a closed circuit system hence you should not be needing to topup gas regularly unless the aircon has issues such as gas leakage at pipes or coils.

Other than leakage in the system, other instances where gas topup might be needed will be such as the initial charge during installation is not to recommended level or gas loss during pump down for chemical services.

Another will be checking of gas during every servicing as everytime the gauges are setup and dismantled, some gas is lost.

Alarm bells should sound if your contractor is always asking you to top gas. We always believe we should get to the cause of the gas loss instead of blindly topping up.

5 mins per aircon for 1 worker seems to be too fast for comfort. Different companies has different sop for servicing.

In most cases, other than removing the front cover, the filter for washing, the drain pipes has to be vacuum to prevent leaking. The coils, blower should be brushed/vacuumed or if the blower is dismantled, removing them will entail a better clean.

You might want to consider engaging another company the next time so that you can compare the work done on site.

When warm air passing through the evaporation coils of the Indoor Unit, some of its moisture will condense into water which is discharged via a drain pipe. This drain pipe normally has 0.5 inch internal diameter may pass through several 90 deg turns before flowing into a common floor drain in the bathroom or toilet. After several years, deposit built up in the drain pipe around the 90 deg turns could block the flow of drain water. When this happens, water will back flow and starts to spill out from wall mounted aircon (Indoor Unit). The best way to clear the choke is to use a powerful wet and dry vacuum cleaner to suck out the deposit causing the choke. The suction head of a conventional wet and dry vacuum will not be able to connect to drain pipe opening located several inches below the surface of bathroom/toilet floor. One has to connect a small flexible tubing to the suction head of the vacuum cleaner. The tubing should be slightly smaller than internal diameter of the drain pipe. As this tubing is much smaller than suction head of the vacuum cleaner, one also has to fabricate another adapter, such as using a water bottle cap. If you don't have wet and dry vacuum cleaner, try using 1.5m long flexible steel wire or small flexible tubing to punch through the choke point. Thread the steel wire or tubing into the drain pipe opening in the floor drain. Slowly push the whole length of the wire/tubing back up the aircon drain pipe. But choke cleared by this method may solve the problem for only few months as it could not clean out the deposit completely. The above is just my personal experiences to share with those of you having same problem. Those doing DIY cleaning the dirt attached to the rotating fan blades should also note that debris drop into water drain tray if not removed could also contribute to choking of the water drain pipe. I believe debris from chemical cleaning may also increase built up of deposit leading to complete blockage finally.

My Mitsubishi Heavy Industries aircon seem to be facing issues lately. I have a System 2 Inverter, and one of the unit is only blowing out hot air, but the other one seems to be running fine with cold air overnight. I switched off the mains for about 1 hour, and the problematic unit started working, but only for a few hours before it starts blowing hot air again.

In this case, usually is evaporator coil or PCB issue?

could be PCB issue, could be expansion valve issue, could be something else. get an aircon technician to troubleshoot, you are not going to get a definitive answer here.

Could also be temp probe issue.

anyone knows the difference between the chemical used by the local companies and the ones from Lazada? for example, the Walch AC cleaner and the Japanese Brand AC cleaning foam.
