I'm helping my friend to post this.

Budget 1.5k, including monitor, OS, keyboard and mouse.
Mainly use for playing the latest game, watching videos and surfing.

Pretty satisfied with the rig recommended by Roy and jian19 last year, so I thought I might use hwz for advice again. :D

GPU: ZOTAC GTX 770 AMP O.C (399)
SSD: OCZ VERTEX 460 120GB/ADATA SP900 128GB (99)
HDD: TOSHIBA 1TB 7200RPM (69)
DVD-RW: LG 24X DVD-RW SATA OEM (25)
PSU: THERMALTAKE SMART SE 630W (85)
Case: BITFENIX COMRADE (59)
OS: WINDOWS 7 HOME PREM (120)
Monitor: DELL 23" S2340L (235)
Keyboard: ARMAGGEDDON AK-700 (19.90)(Challenger)
Mouse: ARMAGGEDDON AQUILA (29)(Challenger)

Total cost: $1560.90

Unless otherwise stated, buy at PC Themes, #04-15, and ask for discounts. DIY yourself. If you can't into DIY, get PC Themes to assemble for you for a fee.

Notes:

1) Unfortunately, due to lack of budget, this is the best rig that can be brought with an approx budget of 1.5K.

2) This rig can play the latest games smoothly in 1080p at High. Gameplay at max settings can be attempted, but smooth gameplay is not guaranteed at max settings. There is also no guarantee that your friend can play near future games smoothly at Max/High settings.

No need so good keyboard 1 la... just a logitech kb n mouse will do. Next time got budget then up. It's better to up budget by a $100 to upgrade to Zotac GTX 970, much better longevity than getting a GTX 770.

PSU is recommended to get a good brand like Seasonic, Superflower or Corsair, if using GTX 970 then 550W will be sufficient, use at least Gold PSU.

In my personal opinion, 80+ Bronze PSUs are still good for use if the budget is tight. Besides, choosing a PSU by brand may not always be a good idea as there is no guarantee that the brand will have consistant PSU quality across all its product lines. It is best to choose a PSU after reading PSU reviews from a PSU reviewer that uses appropriate testing methodology.

How much difference would it make if the budget is raised to 1.8k?

Hi all, similar to the qns posted above, I would like to build a rig and need parts recommendation from you guys. Same budget at 1.8k but I would like to have Windows 8 as my os. Need monitor, keyboard and mouse. I would also prefer to have a case that is not too big/bulky. Any suggestion?

Matx would be fine. But if there's a large difference in the grade of the parts for a larger case, then ignore the size of the case.

Thanks Alternative X for the recommendation. Anymore suggestion?
Do you know how to DIY yourself?

If so, after you ask for discount from PC Themes, you can always bring the list of parts go Tradepac, see they quote you how much.
