Would just like to give a shout-out to David Liaw of My Taiwan Journey.
Just came back from Taiwan covering several locations near Taipei (eg Yangmingshan park, Yehliu Geopark, Jiufen, Shifen etc.) and a day trip to Taroko National Park using David’s service for 4 full days + airport transfers.
His car (VW Caravelle 9-seater) was very spacious and it fits all of us (3 adults, 2 elderlies and 3 young children) and luggages comfortably - yet he drove smoothly throughout our day trips - was particularly impressed with his smooth driving on the winding roads around Taroko National Park (case in point, one of the children whom often has motion sickness on long car rides didn’t have much it during this entire trip
).
As expected of Taiwanese tour guides/drivers, David has this vivacious (slightly wacky) personality which lightened the mood of our journeys - he would share little anecdotes (some are down right hilarious) relating to the places we were passing by or visiting. He would also accompany us as far as possible at the places that we were visiting, without seemingly too intrusive. He even got us some seasonal local fruits to sample on such as sugar apple, which was a very nice gesture.
More importantly (for Chinese-challenged person like me), David speaks very good English (which seems pretty rare in the market) and this made the itinerary planning and communications during the trips so much easier. He also speaks Japanese but didn’t get to test him on that
.
Last but not least, his fees are very reasonable (considering how rare it is to find good English speaking driver in Taiwan) and he collected his entire fees only at the end of our trip (i.e. he puts 100% trust on his clients).
