hi guys, is it advisable to hire a driver which can take us from Taichung, to cing jing and then to hualien? Cutting through the mountainous area. 2 adults 2 v young kids

I personally think it's dangerous.
Once I plan from Alishan to Cingjing, I switch my plan to up down then up again. As it's too dangerous, rock falling happen very often.

Driving in mountainous region is still a bit dangerous especially with weather conditions. I recommend hiring a driver. I took a similar route from Taichung to Cingjing and Hualien. Driver was very experienced and if you wish to continuing hiring a driver in Hualien for Taroko and the beach line his cousin is also available.

If 15000 is inclusive of the driver accommodation then is consider cheap liao... coz for multi-day multi-city 包车 there is usually a 1000-1500 surcharge for his accommodation if he has to find place to stay outside of his home city...

If he never charge that means he sleeping inside his car or he staying at relative/friend place? Not sure if it is safe if he sleeps in his car and not getting enough sleep...

I mostly DIY in Taiwan, at most hire driver from hotel but can't rem how much liao.
Usually is single trip within that town.
Only Thailand outskirt trip, I will hire driver for few days.

Hi everyone, appreciate Griever bro for the wonderful recommendation for Ken.

I just ended my tour with Ken , 蔡先生 in Hualien and highly recommend him, I did 3 days with him, pick up from Taichung to Nantou (day 1), Nantou to Hualien (day 2), and Hualien (day 3).

Nantou to Hualien (day 2) was extremely beautiful as it passes through Hehuanshan, but is a difficult one as it is a mountainous region. You basically drive up to hehuanshan and then go down from the other side. Ken is very experienced in this route as he plies it often. Due a landslide in the recent year, they closed mountain road off for repair works and only open it for like 15 minutes twice daily. He planned ahead and brought us through safely

I will give him 10/10, which I feel isn't even enough

- he prepared a baby safety chair for my little one and it was damn shag for him to every spot he will go down, lift the boot up and take out two strollers and then put it back in again each time. It was very tiring for my wife and I and he helped us a lot with carrying luggages and all throughout the trip.

- very accommodating and friendly as well as recommended us so many good spots for food and sightseeing.

- explained the history behind each place and gave us quirky quizzes about Taiwan which we won and he treated us to a v amazing cong you bing in Hualien

- He comes down quite a few time with us to the attraction to explain to us the history and also help us take pictures.

- Give us a lot of time at each attraction and is very patient, because I have got 2 screaming kids at the back and the elder one vomitted in his car due to the mountainous drive down and he was also v nice about it

- He drives aToyota SUV, very comfortable and spacious, and is a very safe driver as he was very mindful of us having 2 kids at the back.

I hired him for jiufen Shifen and yangmingshan through a contact. He bought drinks and pineapple tarts for us and takes photos for us. He also walks most of the places with us. I went with my parents. Great service. 4000twd for 8 hours

I did taroko gorge and part of the eastern coastal route with 古小姐’s husband. 3500 Twd for 8 hours. Her husband and sons are all drivers. Her husband is very familiar with the coastal route and taroko. He doesn’t walk the routes with us. Her sons do Taichung - HuaLien and they drove my aunt and she was very happy. Taichung HuaLien is more expensive due to the nature of the route.

I booked a cab driver for Yilan. NT3500 for 8 hours per day. He travels from Taipei to Yilan for the job for both days I hired him. Basically just drive you where u wanna go.

Not fantastic but it gets the job done without having to pay for his accommodation, unlike some drivers.
