Hi guys, i'm new to custom keyboards and recently thanks to MASH.SG, it open my doors to these kinds of keyboards. Poisonous place.

I kinda like AKKO Starfish switches and i was wondering if there are other alternatives to that kind of feel. If i do build this keyboard, should i get Krytox lubricant as well and also to make band-aid mods?

Sorry if what I've said might sound confusing, just dont know where to start.

TIA!

im very new to custom keyboards too so just sharing my 2cents! Starfish should be a linear switch, so i believe there are many in the market! i recently bought the alpaca linears by JWK and they sound really good too. lubing the switches definitely helps with the overall 'sound' and typing experience. Band aid mods i personally feel it does not help in every stab/board design? (someone please correct me if im wrong) Because i ever did a band aid mod for my numpad and it didn't turn out well. It did help in my GMMK Pro though. So just give it a shot!

Thanks for the input bro! I was just trying out things as well.

I felt mods can be really subjective to switches. i.e. I tried to vaseline lub my HP cheap 20 bucks mech keyboard, turns out it felt subpar lol

Most people use Krytox 205g0 to lube their switches and 105 for the springs.
Some will also use Tribosys lube for tactile switches, all down to preference.

Band-aids usually is unnecessary these days, maybe still applicable for plate mount stabs if you want the fitting to be tight to prevent any movement that may cause rattle. But for screwed-in or clip-in stabs not needed.

Do you have any boards in mind that you might be building?

Came across this NuPhy Air75 when looking at reviews on RTings
https://www.rtings.com/keyboard/reviews/nuphy/air75https://nuphy.com/products/air75
Pretty high scores from RTings and i love the sleek low profile design. My 16 mths old Keychron K2 starting to ki siao and occasionally disconnect from bluetooth by itself. Also the 4 screws around the metal frame are rusting badly. The NuPhy Air75 is available on taobao so i am eyeing it as a replacement for my K2.

Just ordered feker ik75, hope I will like it more than my k2v2 layout. First time building so went with the cheaper options to try it before the "deep dive " into this rabbit hole.

I just grabbed from the same shopee seller feker immoral panda lol. Got extra discount.

Personally prefers and owned gaterons and cherry mx brown switches, the comments on reddit suggest feker panda is even more tactile than brown, might be a good option for me to start with.

I recently found a Noppoo Choc mini 84 key white color kb in my storeroom. Can’t remember when I bought it but the feel of the keys are still good. But the lettering on the kb is very faint so very difficult to see. I don’t want to buy new keycaps to avoid wasting money. Is it possible to print transparent labels with black letterings and stick over the keycaps?

Hello experts, I'm totally new to this keyboard thingy hope to get some help here.

Recently just bought keychron q1 knob version. Want to try and configure individual key RGB lighting but it seems that QMK does not have the q1 knob version layout? Am I doing something wrong here?

And also any simple mods that you guys would recommend for this keyboard?
