[Recommend] Good Mechanical Keyboard

The new Cherry MX Red keyboard I got feels much better and bouncy compared to the 5 year old Cherry MX Red keyboard I got. I think the switches wear out after some time.


Old MX Red -> Corsair K70 RGB (1st gen with trampstamp logo)
New MX Red -> Corsair K63 wireless

Logitech's glory days were when Dinovo was launched. Mech keyboards were non-existent back then. Typing experience was excellent but after a while, some keys failed to register and need to RMA.

Here's how I got a free keyboard from Logitech every few years. First buy a premium keyboard like dinovo edge with warranty 5 years (at that time). Keyboard start to fail after 3-4 years. RMA and they give you a replacement. That also fail after few years. Model then discontinued. They gave you a selection of the latest keyboards. That also failed after few years. Cycle repeats. New keyboards fail after 1 year only. So I didnt buy any new keyboarf for about 10 years until the cost of my time to RMA outweight the benefits. That's when I opened this thread lol

Thankfully I bought a rubber dome logitech keyboard for my office lol. 2 years + and going strong

Can recommend a gateron yellow or black keyboard? Possible to get them under 100?

i believe tecware phantom offer gat yellows.

Wondering why MX series only got 1yr warranty...now I know...
Own 3 apple keyboard each have 1 or 2 keys spoil, was like RMA every 9mnths. So feed up, until Logitech launch the MX and quickly switch over.... still keep them for recovery mode boot...

Tried a red mechanical, but its cap font is so horrible and make soo much noise that I have to giveaway in carousell...

For the common brands, just stick to rubber or membrane switches. Seriously, the expensive ones doesn't mean it can last longer.

I am considering the new Tempest Kirin V2 since it is hotswap and has more interesting switches (They got gat yellow, box white and box royal and I only used topre and cherry mx blues). However its a bit ex so I also considering keychron since its cheaper but their keyboards very tall and supposedly lower quality. Got any other recommendations that I can consider?

I am not familiar with keychron build but its popular here. If you want sturdy and reliable without the blings, go for filco, ducky or das.

Logitech is nice with design awards but there's a reason why it only has 1 year warranty.

they serve different needs. what are you looking at? you use numpad or need dedicated media keys? go logitech mx, like mech switches? go k2.

Basically Bluetooth and hot swappable if possible. Form factor I prefer 65%>75%>TKL

Someone recommended me the EverGlide Sk87 hotswap on taobao and I may go for it and buy my own switches. It is cheaper than the Kirin V2 and apparently better quality than the keychron.

Hhkb if you like compact keyboards. And it’s a golden grail purchase, means no need to keep on changing keyboard anymore.

Ah I actually have a topre fc660c already cus I need the arrow keys. Now my prioritiy is a Bluetooth keyboard and the Bluetooth hhkb too expensive la haha

I really like the looks of the Vortex Race 3. If only it comes in wireless mode... The Keychron is also not bad but I heard the case is quite tall and that it can strain your wrist.

if you are open to taobao there are alot of options available leh.

you can just search bluetooth and hotswap in chinese and there should be so many options for you regardless if it is 65% or TKL. 75% will be a little less common.

Finally got my cheap Taobao keyboard hoot (Eastern Times Tech T I-119 https://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?id=614760024866).

The red keys are definitely way quieter and closer to the laptop feel that I like. Not sure if it is a standard thing but the light controls using Fn + 6 keys is basically the same as the Tecware Phantom.

now thinking of buying some cheap outemu silent grey switches (silent tactile switches), like $17 for 110 keys. But i need a cheap hotswappable switches keyboard to plug those switches in, then can pass to my fiancee to use.
