Anyone can recommend a budget friendly, durable and easily portable Windows laptop for NUS student studying programming? Handle AI?
Budget maybe about 1.2k?
Asking for the sky but no budget. Haha.
To be frank, any laptop (non chrome book and non ARM CPU) ~1k range can handle that easily these days.
It is now up to you to look at the specs
- RAM?
- Storage? (can be countered with cloud services)
- any GPU included?
Even the other post asking about laptop for poly can also be use for programming

The wording of portable is very vague, but you are probably looking at a 1.2kg - 1.4kg or lighter laptop, ideally with USB C charging as well, so that you can just use a single GAN charger for phone and laptop
For AI, what is your idea? Are you looking at locally hosted AI via llama.cpp paired with something like opencode?
At this budget, probably can only run low quant (Q1,Q2 or Q3 or IQ1 - IQ3) MoE AI models like
Qwen3.6-35B-A3B that can run in memory
If you are looking for programming with AI, best is to just use API keys or subscription with claude code / opencode
Plenty of 16GB RAM laptops on the market...
Probably something like this if you need 32GB RAM

Acer Aspire GO 15 78ZJ
if you want something more customizable, maybe can try local stuff
