CPU slow enough to bottleneck current high-end graphics card.
Even though CPU can overclock, your motherboard isn't suitable to do that without proper heatsink to cool the VRMs. You'll also need to spend extra on CPU coller for that.
Also ensure both your HDD and ODD are not running IDE interface if you wanna upgrade.
Your PSU and chassis should also be old and depreciated enough needing for a change.

So in all other than RAM, nothing else can be kept.

Double sided would work, just that your P55 motherboard might not support certain extreme speeds and 8GB modules as they weren't even made available when your motherboard was released back in 2009.

Here are the speeds supported by this mobo, does the "OC" means that those speeds with * cannot be used unless overclocking? Does the speed of the top-up RAM need to be same as the existing stick?
