My rig is a bit dated now and still rocking a GTX1070 even though I had just swapped out the mobo last year due to it KO'ing
Intel i5-10400F 2.90GHz
Asus prime b460m-a
Palit Gtx1070
Teamgroup elite+ ddr4 2x8GB 3200MHz RAM

Although I don't usually play high spec games, I want my new rig to be able to handle Unreal Engine 5 easily plus in future maybe stuff like Elden Ring with good FPS/high refresh rate.
This means I will likely need to go all the way with RTX 3080Ti or 3090, 128GB RAM with strong processor with lots of cores, good thing that GPU prices coming down now. SSD as well.

Any advice on what set up that would be worthwhile but not being too expensive - and also easy to maintain i.e. not consuming too much power, generate too much heat? Don't intend to do water cooling as its too troublesome for me.

Also, should I consider going for Aftershock instead? I'm feeling a bit lazy to assemble own PC these days and having to troubleshoot PC issues.

Your whole setup requirement shout $$$$$$$ because you want 128GB memory and lots of cores and not generating too much heat.

Maybe you should state what is your budget.

thats not very dated...
Elden Ring with good FPS/high refresh rate.
elden ring still capped at 60fps.

not worth with next gen arriving soon, dont forget these cards are at least a year old at this point. the price u pay now will be the price u pay for much higher performance in a few months time. more budget options make more sense though, maybe something like a 3070/ti. the ti does consume way more power than the non ti though, so go for the vanilla 3070 if worried about power consumption, or even consider amd cards which are pretty efficient this generation.
128GB RAM
if just gaming (even on ue5), this is probably way overkill. only a handful of games have some benefit with more than 16gb of ram, 64gb or even 32gb should be more than enough long into the future; >64gb is more for production type workloads (eg. 4k video editing, 3d modelling etc) ie things that make u actual money, not gaming. also considering that u have to get 32gb dimms as opposed to more common 8gb or 16gb ones, that will likely cost a lot of money, conceivably as much as a 3070ti is worth nowadays.

yeah mobo + processor was updated last year due to mobo dying so its not that old, but didn't do a full overhaul back then cos gpu prices were super ex.

yeah its probably overkill at this stage.
budget is kind of flexible, more about future-proofing so can stretch to $4k exclude monitor but perhaps I should wait for the card refresh first

Hmm lately lots of question on aftershock, tbh got better options, e.g like PC themes

almost like theres a market for prebuits. people want simplicity and 1 place to throw their problems at.
ppl with broken psu/mobo will know how annoying it is to troubleshoot.

only 3 short years ago (before current gen shortage + covid + mining) was spending more than 2k on a pc build overkill, most usually in the 1.5-2k range already considered sane high end le, seeing a 4k budget as "not too expensive" is really

anyway "futureproofing" with current high end parts almost never works out. especially with competition returning to both cpu and gpu markets, likely we will see huge advancements in performance in the next few generations. it is not inconceivable that current gen high end performance will be relegated to mid range status by next gen, a far cry from the incremental uplifts prior to current gen. if really want to stick with a pc for the long run, better to build something more mid range and learn to be satisfied with its performance, and maybe upgrade a few parts here and there when needed. building a rig that can drive ur monitor to its full potential, as yongkit mentioned, is a good guide.

give what u have mentioned, the only 3 things you need to upgrade is ...

GPU
Monitor ( to cater to your high refresh rate desire)
ddr4 ram sticks - 4x 32 gb !

why do you even need 128gb ram for? if gaming only just stick to 16 or not it's just a waste of money. Elden Ring doesn't even need a high spec PC to run at ultra settings because it's capped to 60fps. Upgrade GPU according to what resolution/refresh rate you planning to play at/upgrading in future. If your budget can stretch to 4k might as well do a full rig overhaul.
