Hi all,

1) Durable and reliable
2) We are based in BKK most of the time in a year
3) Below 1.5k SGD
4) For normal office work, eg. doing presentations in ppt, excel, connect to VPN, some database. creation of marketing materials (lightwork), so i guess will be using illustrator and photoshop.
5) Light
6) Please SIC price and place to buy?
7) Are laptop prices cheaper in Singapore or Bangkok?

TIA

Was at Best Denki Takashimaya 5th floor last weekend. They are running a store re-opening promotion. Discounted prices on many products, and also absorbing the GST. ie, minus 7% on your laptop purchase rice+ maybe some free gifts etc. Not sure if promo still available, but you might wanna check out the place, even if you're not buying, cause they do have a wide range of the latest models available to browse around.

Since you're using for work, I suggest you check out some of the business-class series laptops/or ultrabooks(lighter, slimmer and longer batt life) from asus or lenovo. They tend to look more professional, better durability/security.

I'm more inclined to go with asus, simply cause they got more pedigree in making motherboards.

If your coy give you the dell 7440, then get the same for your gf lor. couple tag-team ma, same same. lol. Same hardware/software, apps, drivers, support etc. Any prob with one, can use the other to troubleshoot/remedy etc.

Dell is ok too, nowadays choosing laptop mainly down to aesthetics and functions you need.

My sis swears by lenovo thinkpad x series for work laptops - keyboard is easy to use, tough and light to carry. Laptop must be lightweight to be very portable. But it's above $1.5k even with minimum requirements. The other series for Lenovo isn't as lightweight but they are much cheaper.

I c. Any particular models and prices?

I have been looking around online prices too. Is newegg the cheapest or should I check amazon?

Ssd and dedicated graphics card Usually don't come together I realized. Ssd is most impt 256gb. FHD, i7, no DVD drive, preferably a dedicated graphics card. 14inch at least. Less than 2.3kg

with that kind of budget you want

- weight
- discrete gpu
- international warranty
- 8gb ram
- ssd
- don't want DIY

ASUS UX Series - don't have pure SSD but comes with HDD + mSATA
or ThinkPAD T440s + Nvidia 730M but >2K

have u consider MAcbook pro retina 13"?
it is sgd1688, a bit over ur budget.
but at this price range,
quite hard to get WINTEL lappy wif tat kind of HD resolution,
it is all SSD, 8GB,
and the aluminium unibody, imo nothing come close,
even high end ASUS lappy still cannot surpass the design... but tats subjective though...

i've been looking around for laptop, mbp13" range,
so far ASUS is nice... but similar screen resolution model, price will be over $1688...

MBP 13" actually not that expansive afterall...

My gf doesn't want a Mac.
:(

Might downgrade and be at ease with an integrated graphics card.
SSD is the most impt and it Cannot coexist with a standalone graphics card.
