You can consider Brother series
L2375DW: Print only @ $168 + 4 after $20 (TBA) coupon
L2535DW: L2375DW + Scan + Copy @ $182 Qoo10 after $30 off $200 coupon
L2550DW: L2535DW + ADF @ $198 Qoo10 after $30 off $200 coupon

DCP-L2535DW comes with more functions like scan and copy you don't need, but only cost $10 more. ADF is another $16 more. If I were you I will take L2550DW for ADF especially if ever need to photocopy many pages.

You just missed Challenger 20% off printer sale last weekend.

I bought the Brother MFC-L3770CDW selling at $578 for $420.78 after 20% off, Shopback and other rebates. Still got $40 voucher to claim from Brother.

I am also potentially looking for a new laser printer. Currently using the Fuji Xerox DocuPrint CM 305 df. It's over seven years old & now having paper jams when used cold...

Required functions
- A4 colour printing
- scanner
- copier
- auto duplex

Wireless connectivity not important.

Would like to upgrade to another Fuji Xerox model...but read that they have stopped selling to individuals?

Any recommendations, please?

Would the HP M281fdw be a decent like-for-like replacement for the Fuji Xerox CM305 df?

Salesman at various shops keep pushing HP. It's smaller though. If u don't need single pass scanning and don't mind higher ink price can go for HP.

my thoughts:

those who print frequently will benefit from the cheaper ink cost of ink tank printer
those who occasionally print will benefit from laser

Ink will dry and clog print head for occasional printers, making the printer un-useable when one actually needs. But for frequent user, no such issue cos printer used daily

Personally, I use laser cos I only print 1x every few months.
Office uses mixture of laser and ink tank

Isn't that the very same reason why people opt for laser over inkjet? Cost per page is generally lower with toner over inkjets. Plus, toner doesn't smudge in water inkjet does. Toner (especially black & white) printout quality also much than inkjets.

Actually, cost per page is lower with ink tank inkjets than toner (comparing originals for both)

so in my workplace, using ink tank printer to print labels daily.

inktank printers cheaper than laser in cost per page I think

The sole reason why I am looking at laser is because inkjet/tank tend to dry up for the print head if u don't use often

For me, I use infrequently but when I do print, I print alot
So I guess laser more suitable for me?

Anyone know how to resolve issue of print head drying up for inkjet type printer?

Several years back i was ever quoted by Epson $200+ to replace inkjet printhead for my old AIO. AIO itself costed $230+ IIRC FYI. Immediately threw away and gotten HP inkjet AIO (which was another crap too). Died from yet another printhead failure :s22:

Tiagong printer manufacturers sustain themselves by making inferior print heads and expensive ink catridges to make you keep replacing them.

Replace the cartridges or diy cleaning, I asked before and it's not expensive for my printer. BTW laser printer also has printhead which is expensive and need to be replace if dirty and some inkjet and laser printer has built in print head that can't be replace.

Any numbers to back that up?

Rather, it has been extensively discussed on web toners cost less per page than inkjet, which is also why companies are largely chose it over inkjet, on top of print quality superiority etc..

And with regards to TS, he is printing many document pages. Laser toners are in favour to him in most ways.

On the other hand, inkjet printer designs which use a disposable printhead usually cost significantly more per page than printers using permanent heads. By contrast, laser printers do not have printheads to clog or replace frequently, and usually can produce many more pages between maintenance intervals.
