I was quoted a list of specs and the total price was kind of staggering.

PU: Intel Core i5-4460
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z87-D3HP ~ $470
CPU Cooler: Thermal take Water 2.0 pro (used) ~$75
Memory: Gskill ValueRAM DDR3-1600 8GB (2 x 4GB) ~ $105
Storage: Crucial MX100 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ~ $169
Storage: 1TB WD red ~ $90
Video Card: 2nd hand R9 290X gaming (used) ~$350
Case: Fractal Define R2 Midi (black) ~ $130
Power Supply: Superflower HX600 Golden Green 80+ Gold Semi-Modular PSU ~ $105
ODD - SATA DVD Writer ~ $22
OS installation
Diagnostics

Total: $1542

The pricing don't sounds from Tradepac.

Value ram at 105 might as well buy gaming ram 110.

And the board is a z87 board with a non oc CPU? Are you intending to oc?

Whr u hoot your crucial mx100 256gb at $135.30?

You can consider the Thermaltake 3.0 extreme, would be $10 cheaper and if bargained, will be more than that.

That samsung monitor, is it an old model? 1080p at 27" isnt that great. Either get 1440p at 27" or 1080p at 24".

Even so, 1080p on 27" isnt that great. The image will be stretched out on the 27" and wun look good as compared to a 1080p 24". It will look slightly pixelated. YMMV.

Oh crap. I was also evaluating on the QNIX korean monitor for the 1440p, I thought the risks involved in getting no warranty + a defective monitor was not worth it as compared to the 27" by samsung which provides a 3 year warranty; since they both cost the same.

I wasn't aware about the stark difference in quality that you have mentioned.
I intend to stick to this budget of mine and I would certainly consider this as I'm a sucker for performance and quality as well.

Regarding the option of getting a 24" 1080P, that option would be out for me as I currently am using a 30" Apple cinema HD for work purposes (provided by company). I won't get used to a screen smaller than 27" now (spoiled by the 30" screen), and they won't look good side by side :p

*edit* Heck. I just ordered the QX2710 LED Evolution ll SE [Matte]. I'm in for the gamble. (Don't give me too much backlight bleed please T_T)
