If you dont mind paying abit more then get

R3 1200 + B350
1050 Ti
250gb SSD
The rest get as cheap as possible.

The PC will stay relevant longer.

If really overbudget then change SSD to HDD.

If still overbudget then change R3 to G4560.

No need ssd la haha...on budget then you must sacrifice time to wait for windows to load lor. Win10 takes how long to load using hdd 7200rpm? Anyone knows?

One more thing to add, if you choose ryzen route, you need a dedicated gpu coz they do not have on board gpu.

Actually the best I would suggest is the G4560 + GT1030 or G4560 + gtx 1050 try and go for zotac for the 5 years warranty. Is the best value/performance combo for a low budget gaming pc build atm. Don't really recommend you go r3 1200 because the G4560 gaming benchmark test is almost on par or sometimes yield higher fps then the r3 1200 and its selling at a lower price so better go with G4560.

Or if better still try and wait a while longer and see what coffeelake has to offer whether they have a more value for money budget processor that can beat the G4560 in terms of value/performance dollar.

If willing to fork out abit more for your budget up your gpu to 1050ti or 1060 for maximum fps gain.

@ts my current recommendation is to wait for kopilake which is coming soon. If cant wait then get the g4560 +h110 + gtx 1050. Psu get something usable like fsp hexa+. Case is up to you

What do you reckon of Asus E3 pro gaming V5 mobo? Buy with i5 7400 chip $400+.

Yes. Current latest amd processor line up is the Ryzen 3 shortform for R3, Ryzen 5 aka R5 and the Ryzen 7 aka R7. They come in various form like R3 1200, R3 1300x go google read up about AMD ryzen processor.

We could talk about cores and threads but that would just confuse u.

In short, if your budget allows, just get

CPU: H110 + G4560 / B350 + R1200 (Better but need overclock)
GPU: 1050 TI
Ram: 8gb 2400mhz valueram
PSU+Case: Get FSP + Case combo

I did some search and start to understand why most recommend g4560 chip.

Like slightly lower performance to i3 but at 1/2 price.

If I wait for gen 8 to launch, means current 7th gen stuff will price drop drastically?

No it will not. See price lists and check Intel 4th gen processor in some of them. Pricing still almost the same and didn't drop much.

That's why we only recommend getting the newest. You want drop price, get 2nd hand. Those will drop price once will generation of product is out.

I’m looking to DIY build a new CPU to replace my current CPU. My last build was 7 years ago. I am able to fix the parts myself.

Reliable power supply.

Graphic card for occasional playing of SC2 and D3. Reason for replacement: 1st card XFX broke down after 2 years. 2nd card MSI broke down after 5 years.

Intend to use SSD which I just bought earlier this year.

No need sound card. Have existing DVD drive.

Budget $500++ (mainly for motherboard $200+, chip & graphic card)

SC2 and D3 newer boards can use onboard gpu - 8th gen, not need gtx1050
