Why use switches when you can turn on or off your lights with your voice or smartphone?

Those so call smart device use power all the time even you are not using it. Assuming how many time you need to turn on/off light in a day. You may waste more standby power. Not practice.

Also, these switch never last long Vs those mechanical one.

Technology change will make this kind of smart switch out dated quickly too. One can have a new handphone every 2 years. Unlikely you want to change these switches out regularly.

you can still use the existing non-smart mechanical switch and make the home smarter by using smart bulbs

all in all i would say to get the basic requirements right
- do you want a hard and loud click or soft and near inaudible click?
- do you want fashionable to match decor like color or big/small buttons?
- do you want safety mark?
- do you want just smart or best of both worlds can still on lights via physical switch?
- how many gangs cum ways you need?

for me personally a white switch is an eyesore if it stands out against the decor no matter how long lasting i would get it changed out or painted to match

Totally agree. Those mechanical ones are still the better choice. More durable and lasting too.

Oh i just realised Schneider Electric has an official store on Lazada now. Seems like many businesses are leveraging on such platform in midst of covid-19. This is cool as we don't have to go down to the stores physically. But switches may still be something we need to see, touch and feel for ourselves before buying. So i wonder how many people will really buy online unless the price is super cheap as compared to the stores. If anyone here has experience buying such goods online, you may want to share your precious opinion with me on how to buy such goods online?

hi @limpingsim98
i often heard one of reason to upgrade to smart wifi switch is energy savings
there are switch with N cable with power connected all the time. and another without N cable on Zigbee that can control with hub. Can schedule on/off and also alert if forget to off remotely.

HDB has progressively changing to AMI smart electric meter over a 5 year period to upgrade for all HDB flats new or old. so that residents can monitor usage of devices in real time 1/2 hour block instead of bill shock at end of month.

i believe the pros outweighs the cons of upgrading to smart switch;)

1. The switch is never smart, it just been controlled remotely or programmed to on/off at certain day of time.
2. Those use N cable get full power regulated on electronic logic, those with N cable may required you to install a capacitor at device end. Basically it get powered all the time so you can control it via WiFi or internet.
3. HDB "AMI smart electric meter" only provide you more usage information so you know, if necessary change you usage pattern in order to save power. This is to say the smart one is you if you choose to control your usage. The device is hardly "smart" if you choose to continue to use the electricity as usual.

anyone bought from china without the safety mark. any issues?
why would you want to do this? switches are not expensive locally, if you get them from the right places. and there are significant upsides to getting them locally, ease of exchange, almost no downtime if you need to get a replacement/additional switch, and eliminate any insurance/safety related risk around lack of safety mark.
