I'm currently using a Alienware x51 R2 (STOCK) which is dying off since it have been 5 years. It's actually having trouble booting up lately, when I press the button nothing happens. Also the CPU having some issue which let me CPU Fan go kisiao, switching on and do nothing but temperature (HWM) goes up to almost 100.

Hence, I decided to build my own desktop ^ unless there's a solution to fix the Alienware.

Basically, I only play 1 game and it's DotA 2 because I can't play FPS game fml hence I don't need those very high end atas comp because I don't really need that wonderful specs. I came up with a list and I seek all the expert and laojiao advice/suggestion/recommendation on my build before I really go SLS to get it.

Mb : GIGABYTE GA-H270N-WIFI
CPU : Intel Core i5-7400 Kaby Lake Quad-Core 3.0 GHz
GPU : GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1050 Gaming 2G
CPU Cooling : Cooler Master Hyper 212
RAM : Crucial 1x 8GB 2133
Case : Phantek Evolv ITX
Case Fan : 3x Cooler Master Master Fan 140mm
Power Supply : Cooler Master MasterWatt Lite 600W (idontknow how much should my built need)
Storage : Reuse current Seagate Desktop HDD 1TB

Basically just going to use it to surf net and play dota under it's ultra setting, do let me know if they are overkill and i love to hear suggestion !

Thanks in advance !

DOTA 2 doesn't have high demands

You can stick to stock CPU Cooler ( don't need to waste money on Hyper 212 )
Casing choice is up to personal preference
Personally, i would go for an all aluminium chassis ( spend more ), or at least the Silverstone RVZ / FTZ / ML series.
Graphic card, you may want to go with a GTX1060 3 or 6gb if you intend to play more games in the near future.
GTX1050 is CMI but sufficient for Dota2
Ram; 2x4gb
PSU: 450 / 500 / 600W is enough
TBH ; 450W is more than sufficient for your system

You can try Infinity where they will build the system in front of you with 30 days 1:1

I suggest a Ryzen build. Lower power usage and many also come with a good CPU cooler that's way better than the POS stock Intel cooler.

Thank you so much but if I was to stick to GTX1050 will I be able to run DotA at the ultra setting because I doubt I will be playing other games. I really appreciate for you to solve my PSU question at least I know what should I go for now instead

I wanted to with the Krait Gaming because I really like the cool LED but then budget wise is really chor on the pocket though

I considered Ryzen before but after researching for a bit between the two comparison I still decide to stick to Intel

Nope, because I won't settle down with an i3 or AMD due to personal preference though I really don't know how wonderful will they be as it's just review online.

let's say we take INFINITY and BizGram for the price comparison..
Infinity Intel LGA1151 Coffee Lake MBD / Bundle Price :
MSI z370 Krait Gaming $254 (Intel 8th Gen)
^ I strongly believe it's just the MBD, so with the CPU...
Intel BX80684I58400 8th Gen i5-8400 $269

Total cost for this two would be $523, while my bundle would be 237+211=$448.

on Best Bargain,
MSI Z370 + Kopi i5 8400: $539
GB GA H270 N + i5 7400 : $455

However I'm not sure if my other parts price will change but if the total cost is cheaper I definitely will try to swim in the lake cause my budget is ideally 1000 though my want-to-built exceed a little.

P/S I am still a newbie so do correct me i'm wrong because I wanna learn :)

As you can see, the i3 8100 performs consistently better than the i5 7400 in tests.

Dont flame a person who knows nothing about pc's.

Get coffeelake. Always invest in the newest tech.
Maybe I will start looking around for a MB maybe? Or you have any MB to suggest ideally with a WIFI ?

Hi AnonymousJon,

What's your budget for the whole system?
Whole built excluding storage(i can reuse the existing HDD), ideally somewhere no more than 1000? but if it was to exceed a little then still will get it guess

Thanks for your kindness :) but would it be overkill just for my requirement?

He has that typical mindset that i7 is better than i3 since its a bigger number. Same as my friend who knows nth abt DIY PC. His laptop die die must get i7 de.
Maybe we have that one common friend that told me not to settle down for an i3?

"Settle for AMD" :s13: TBH, keep your options open. You can get Ryzen for cheaper and use the money for an SSD or better PSU/GPU. Evolve ITX dont really have the best air flow so you might wanna reconsider.

It's true, I considered AMD at the start then I recall the compatibility issue with DotA in the past which was part of the reason I didn't want to go for AMD, but still who knows maybe end of the day I still choose AMD since I have yet to purchase anything. ;)
Thanks for pointing out about the casing which I think I will do a little more check on it.

I took your advice into consideration and I'm considering about this built

CPU + MB : I3-8100 + Gigabyte Z370N WIFI
Memory : 2x4GB DDR4-2400 (Please let me know if ram brand matters)
GPU : MSI GeForce GTX 1050
Case : Cooler Master Master box Lite 3.1
PSU : Cooler Master MWE 450W

^Don't plan to install any additional fan since the case already has one, or should I get one more?
P/S if there's any mATX RGB casing do let me know

Please do not start this otherwise thread will be close.

There are both pros and cons for a Kaby Lake vs Coffee Lake system which will started a heated debate.

You can read my summary in this thread here
http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/hardware-clinic-2/suggestion-building-pc-5730416-3.html

Nowadays suka suka can close thread huh. your summary is the final verdict that should be accepted?
Saw that thread, moneyface already indicated if not upgrading it is still cheaper to buy coffee i3 vs kaby i5 so why your final post mentioned he is assuming everybody will upgrade?

Precisely we are aware not all are tech savvy that's why we are telling them to buy coffee i3 over kaby i5. Wrong for us to do that? And what's the post of preowned kaby system for? Lala recommended or rather approved/agreed TS choice of a kaby i5 new system thus the bashing. If he had said to go for cheap preowned kaby lake system then I'm sure moneyface also won't bashed him.

Forum not for discussion/debate and at same time absorb more info then is for what? Everyone just anyhow shoot recommendations and no one is supposed to disagree is what you want/expect?
