Bought galaxy A8. When I switched on its contains Starhub apps. The person did something reformatted and sold to me. Really cheated , and the fone had sound problem,getting heat,..then I trade it out at another shop. Around $350 lost. Before I have bought 3 new phones at red white. But I never go again .

Hmm. Thanks for your feedback.

- Starhub apps is probably due to it being a Starhub set - which was sold to them - brand new / second hand. I believe this is fairly common isn't it since shops and outlets like this do take in unit from persons offering to sell after re contracting.

- Reformatting is basically changing the csc code to a non telco csc.

If it had sound and heat issues, shouldn't you not have brought it to the service center to have it rectified?

Did u do a *#0*# to check on the phone. Sound problem can be detected by that.

the shops take in telco sets. Normally they will ask for receipt if selling new but opened sets, just to make sure nobody tries to sell them a 2 mth set.
did they say its used or new? If spoilt why not go svc ctr?

The risk is always there if you are buying 2nd hand phones from any shop. Yes, u may argue the shop did a test before accepting trade-ins. But lots of stuff such as overheating are hard to check during the trade-in process. I've bought only brand new phones from moby, whymobile, mobilesquare, kasia, mobilehardware, red white over the years and no issues. As for trade-in price, u got to do your homework on who offer the highest. At times, red white offered the highest price for the phones im trading in.

As for other aspect, you never check sounds meh? Overheat is depends.

Based on Mobile Square website, Samsung A8 selling price $570, trade in value $330. So at most you lose $240.

When you say lose $350, meaning they offered $220? That shop should have the decency to advise you to get it repaired at Samsung Service Center.

Btw I think the shop that took in your a8 at $350 loss might be the one "cheating" you instead.

it buys back at about $330 depending on condition.

If you are selling it yourself on carousell / forums - prices should be higher.

When you purchased the phone, did you test the phone out including inserting a sim?

Bought a used s7 edge from them and WiFi not working. Immediately went down the same day and they changed for me.

Just need check everything on the spot to be safe.
