1907 care

Hi I just got a pair of 1907 and wonder how I should care for it. I found some forums online saying don't use mink oil on 1907 and some say use. Any suggestions ?

wear it in good health!

personally i like the weathered and worn look so i have not cared for my 1907 ever since i got it around 2-3 years ago.

im sure that is why u got a red wing right? if u want a leather boot and keep it in pristine condition cos u want to and it needs to be or else it looks bad, then go buy dr martens :s22:

dr martens look horrible even with slight scratches and scuffs. red wings look more and more amazing as it gets weathered :)

Well I do love the rugged look of the 1907 but what I meant was that I wouldn't want my leather to crack over time and to make it water resistant as well as not wanting to loose its original colour ( as I heard ppl saying mink oil would darken it) So is there any products to recommend ? :D

The RW uncle at Leeden classic @ Orchard gateway recommended me the red wing "all natural leather dressing"! Its a combination of mink oil, pine pitch and beeswax. Since its not pure mink oil I believe that it wouldnt darken the leather as much as just using mink oil. The dressing also provides slight water proofing(against minor splashes, rain and such.) since it contains wax. You can try it! Bring your shoes along and the uncle might just clean your shoe if he is free :s13: the dressing is 20.90 iirc :)

i can assure u that it will take many years for your red wings to crack considering how humid the weather is here :)

probably by then, u would have changed the soles a few times already

guide to buying online

Hi guys, I'm kinda new to boots stuff but I decided I wanna get an 8111.

How would you recommend getting it online cheaper? Does amazon usually have a sale for this? And which forwarder would you recommend?

Honestly, a pair of good boots can last you a good number of years. I will advise you guys to head down to let the RW guys measure your feet size properly before jumping the gun on the net and end up with wrong size.

My first pair of RW was bought locally and it has been 5 years now. Just got my second pair which is 8111. Both serving me well now.

Hmmm now not good time to buy online. Usd very strong. After shipping, taxes and conversion I think can't save much. Maybe at best save sgd50??? At best! :(

Few years??!! I think that's an understatement lol. Good genuine leather can last decades if treated right! :)

My 1907. Still a long way to achieve the weathered distressed look :)

Are the prices standardize in all SG stores? Orchardgateway vs Queesway.. I got my first pair from Q.W few yrs ago, however they do not carry Iron Ranger.

i only compared with rw main store and online prices. i guess i was confident that online prices will definitely be cheapest overall :)

got a pair of 8111 from Orchard Gateway yesterday. Was quite impressed with the service provided the young Malay chap.

was looking around alone initially, and narrowed down to 2 models, iron ranger and beckman. but was still unsure whether this 2 pairs will go well with working pants. so asked the salesperson to provide some advice, and coincidentally, he recommended the same 2 models to me.

was really torn between beckman and iron ranger. for the beckman, i like the clean and seamless round toe on the beckman over the iron ranger. however i was unsure the gloss was a good thing. i also prefer the darker tone outsole and speed hook on the iron ranger. and without trying the beckman, i bought the iron ranger, though i was complaining to the salesperson that i was feeling a sharp pain on the 3rd rows of the lace eyelets of my right foot, which he said the pain will go away when the leather is broken in.

when i tried wearing it this morning, the pain persist in the same area, and i also noticed that my right foot arch was grinding the insole. guess i'll have to bring it back for a change, and might consider a try with the beckman and maybe blacksmith model, if they do allow a change in the model.

The shoe is not broken into yet that's why u feel all sorts of pain and discomfort. Even if u bring it back to the shop I guarantee u they will say the same thing. Of course if u still insist on an exchange/refund then they will have to some how facilitate as best to their terms and conditions. When I got my 1907 I had all sorts of similar issues with it but once broken in it feels like a dream. Give it some time at least a few months and u will be surprised

thanks for the advice bro.

i was thinking the same thing when i bought it. but when i wore it this morning, i realised it was my right foot that was hurting, but not my left foot.

i might have an uneven size foot, and the width measurement was taken on my left foot, which was probably explains why it's more comfy wearing the boot on my left foot.

anyway, i gave them a call and they asked me to bring it down and even allowed a change of model if i want.
