Purchased RW 8131 few days ago, realized that there's no red wing logo at the side of the shoes, did they change?

It will be better to buy locally. They measure your feet and they let you try different sizing to let you feel which fit you prefer but generally they will recommend you a snug initial fit. Buying locally also helps if there is any issue of the pair you bought since they allow 1 to 1 exchange if it is manufacturer defects. Another plus point is you can see how you look like with the new pair of boots and decide if it is really for you before dropping the cash on it. :)

I doubt the difference in the pricing is that huge to mitigate the above advantage when purchasing locally.

I think the only time you should buy online(trusted source) if they have good return policy (which rarely does since we are located in singapore) and you are re-purchasing a similar pair.

Don't ever buy boots from rakuten. The conversion rate doesn't justify the shipping and other fees. Shipping itself is gonna cost a bomb when coming to boots.

Thanks to all bros' advices. Next question would be : are there any difference in prices between the local distributors? Cheaper to get from queensway, suntec, leftfoot or tuckshop?

different retailers mark up differently. if want to choose, get from suntec, the person there can advice more adequately.

Red Wing Resole Experience at Shukey Tampines 1

Hello fellow Red Wing fans,

I recently had my 8138 resoled at Shukey Tampines 1 and would like to share my experience.

I paid $120 for a vibram sole with stitching. Workmanship looks fine at first but upon closer inspection I found out that the stitches actually went through many points in the leather around the toe area.

Naturally I was disappointed as this meant that the boots are no longer waterproof. The Shukey guy did not mention prior about stitching through the leather.

I would post photos but I do not have sufficient post count to do so. Maybe someone can help?

Has anyone here had their Red Wing boots done this way before?

Which vibram sole? The same crepe sole?

Yes crepe sole.

Quote from an email from red wings

"Shukey is our designated clobber for Red Wing shoes, especially with the resoling of traction tred outsole boots. For Iron Range boots resoling, this boots style requires Goodyear welt stitching in the repair process and unfortunately we cannot find any clobber in Singapore who owns such machine nor have the skills to handle such resoling work."

I guess it means any sole that is Goodyear welt if you want maintain it you will need send back red wings which cost $230 total

230 I might as well send to Japan for resole... Anyway I'm guessing yours is an isolated incident. Had many friends resoled be it commando sole or crepe sole, no issues and pretty satisfied. That being said, my redwing are due for a resole. Probably sending to Shukey or taiwan for resole.

I think is because you asked for stitching instead of their usual glue the new sole to the old welt.

Didn't expect them to stitch through the leather upper. I visited the shop again and saw a couple of red wings done this way also. Thanks for sharing the email anyway.

How much would a Goodyear welt resole cost in Taiwan or Japan?
