After using a couple of months, my redmi note 11 phone died. I sent to Xiaomi service centre to claim claim warranty.
They claim it has water damage and no warranty. I am very sure it has never been anywhere near water. I may have dropped it, but never near water.
So it's a dispute between me and CS. They can always say it has water damage to get out of warranty coverage.

I have another redmi note 10 also died, again I didn't bring water. But since it was out of warranty I did not try to repair.

So be careful if you're buying Xiaomi phone. I have swear it off. I will never buy anymore of these crap phones.

They quote a repair cost of near $500, which is simply ridiculous.
So if you want to buy Xiaomi phone, treat it as disposable, whether it's $200 or $1000, whether got warranty of not, it doesn't matter.
They can always throw the "water damage" at you. It's your word against theirs.

aren't there any stickers on the motherboard that are supposed to change color upon contact with liquid?

And how would you know ?
Unless you open up the phone yourself to see. In which case, the warranty would be voided also, bcuz you tamper with it.

Did the tech at the service center show you the evidence of water damage or you just accepted their diagnosis at face value without seeing for yourself is what I was alluding to.

when i put in pocket and walk in the rail corridor very humid , my sweat penetrated the pocket and made the paper wet + abrasion until little paper crumbs all over my phone screen

Ya usually sweat can cause it. I think there are some kind of sticker inside which will change colour when touch water. My phone is always either back pocket or holding it on my hands. I will not put in front pocket due to sweat. If u put tissue in front pocket for whole day u will know what happen to the tissue.

They will take a few days to check. So no tech there to open it in front of you, not like buying durian.
Then they send me a SMS . And yeah the repair cost more than a new phone.
I think they just want to shun the responsibility of a warranty repair. Just whack "water damage" and absurdly high repair charge to push you away.
Hi, this is XiaoMi customer service.

Our technicians have found water damage within your phone. As such, this is counted as out of warranty and would be a non refundable $35 for inspection fees.

For repairs, the sub board, mother board, LCD and battery would need to be repaired. This would cost $409.10.

In total, if you accept the repairs, it would be $444.09.

better to bring up the budget $270 - $320 range and wait for poco x5 to go on discount , it's still fresh so u need to wait for promo price
then console yourself to use the phone 1 more year to stretch out the higher cost
if nfc is consideration i assume the person will use the phone quite alot and it's worth investing slightly more in phone than get a very marginally acceptable $200 phone

now is awkward time to buy as there is gst cost , they didn't price hike the older models but it mean the discount will be less , should have bought during december last year

Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately didn't had the time to plan my purchase so missed the Dec deals. Will go look up poco x5. I m thinking of buying to replace huawei m20 or for the seniors who need a volte phone for simba. For seniors though they not using volte now but never know later especially with so much push on digital payment.. Hope 3.3 will have some sweet deals
