Mine a local set updated Eu set not yet.

Does MIUI 12 for note 8 pro has Google discover how to turn it on? Does it need to me regular launcher or need the App Drawer launcher ?

Update showed up 2 nights ago and then disappeared the next morning. Had to download the update manually.

Google Play store broke down on RN8P after MIUI12 updates

Hello friendly folks

Need some urgent expert help please.

I have an original Redmi Note 8 Pro which I got from China (CN), and obviously it comes with the CN ROM.

2 days ago, my unit received the MIUI12 update, which I updated. Thereafter, I realised Google Play Store broke down.

I got the following response when launching Google Play Store:
"Error retrieving information from server DF-DFERH-01" and it comes with a Retry button.

I researched the Internet on remedies to this, and found similar advice like this
https://support.google.com/googleplay/thread/3944448?hl=en
Unfortunately, none of these help.

One of the solution was to remove the Google Account and add it back again. Horror of horrors, I the found out that I cannot add it back, with the following error message:
Unable-to-create-new-google-account.jpg

Then I dug deeper into MIUI12 updates, which interestingly has a line that says "Optimization: Apps aren't allowed to launch other apps in the background now."

Monitoring the app behavior identified the following events:

I am not entirely sure if this is the cause. But I have tried removing and reinstalling all key Google services on my CN ROM set, but none of these help.

And now that I am locked out of all Google services (like Gmail, calendar, etc), desperately appreciates some useful advice to overcome this please.

Attached here is the specs:

Thanks in advance!

May I know if it’s a cn set it shouldn’t come with gms in the 1st place how did you get gms? If you side load it, then the easiest is to just reset your phone to factory settings and restart again

Hello davidwong

Thanks for responding timely.

Not sure what gms is, but I assume some Google service? Happy to be correct or enlighten by you. And with that assumption, my response as follows.

You are correct that the set originally does not come with Google services. I have manually loaded all those critical Google services to get it running. All were good in MIUI11, but right after the MIUI12 updates, things started to fall apart.

It may be worthwhile to note that I obtained those Google apps APKs from my Samsung phone which is still running Andriod 7, and it worked well with MIUI11. That said, I do not believe the lower version of these APKs, if applicable, is resulting in the breakdown.

It however does seem MIUI12 is restricting access to Google Services Framework, which I understand as the backbone to run things like Google Play Store or adding a new Google account.

I have tried reloading these apps but it does not seem to help. Included are actions to clear all data as well. The only thing I am unable to uninstall is Google Play Service, as it does not come with an uninstall option. I am also unsuccessful to getting MIUI12 to not restrict Google Services Framework.

And yes, reset to factory settings will be my last option. But if I have to go there, then I am seriously considering to switch over to Global ROM, which brings me to another question -

Assuming one is able to change the CN ROM to a global one, can I get Google Pay to work then?

Appreciates any inputs or sharing.

Thanks!

Hello rrr2015

Thanks for responding.

Will revisit this option to run a 3rd party APK.

Had previously gave this a miss after successfully setup my Google apps manually by installing up those required Google services APKs.

My understanding is that Google installer v3.0 apk is kind of a batch file installing a handful of critical Google services to support Google apps. As long as one can manually cover the installation of those handful of critical services, it will work the same.

Nevertheless, thanks for the sharing. May explore this as a last option if I choose not to switch over to global ROM (for sake of Google Pay). Shall keep you posted separately.

And I assume you're on CN ROM for your RN8P. Does Google Pay work on your device?

As for your question about Note 9, I personally unable to comment as I did not research into Note 9. Still quite satisfied with my Note 8, till MIUI12 broke it.

Cheers!
