Hi All,

Is Redmi Note 8 pro the most value for money NFC phone? I am planning to replace my nearly 3.5 yr old Redmi Note 4X haha. I have some qoo10 Qmoney, so ideally would like to buy using qoo10, but if there is big discount in Shopee, dont mind also. Please suggest! Thanks!

Looks like a good phone, but I would like to have NFC, because that is the only thing I miss in my current phone. Otherwise, I may not even notice any difference from my Redmi Note 4X.

I got it during sales from shoppee xiaomi sg with local funan xiaomi warranty at 189 so after discount 250 to me not worth it rather go for X3

You got X3 for 189?

I thought 250 is the cheapest for X3 so far, in the X3 thread, many people have bought from the same shop GoldFinch from HK.

He meant the N8 pro lol, really surprise drop on 11.11 sales.

Wow that is shocking. Even China set costs $214.

I am now considering the below 2 phones:

Redmi Note 8
Redmi 9

https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?&idPhone2=10233&idPhone3=10599&idPhone1=9814

This shop in qoo10 is selling China set and both cost $174. Which one is better? I would have bought Poco M3, but I have $170 in Q money, so would like to buy in Qoo10.

Anybody can help, which one should I buy? I am totally confused RN8 vs R9.

RN8 is slightly smaller screener and I think I like that compared to the larger screen of R9 as both resolution is same, it is just blown up in R9. Helio G80 processor seems to be better in performance, but Snapdragon is more reliable I guess. Camera I am not sure, which is better, most redmi phones have 48 megapixel camera, the Redmi 9 seems odd with 13 megapixel.

Overall I am tilted towards RN8, except that I am buying a 1yr old phone vs more recent phone R9.

Any thoughts?

From the spec comparison on both phones, there are toss ups to both. One has a better camera system and a smaller battery capacity, while the other has a subpar camera system with a bigger battery capacity. Other than the obvious older and newer launch dates, what is the price difference between the two? Any possibility of considering another model with similar price point?

Both are of the same price. China set for about $170.
All other phones and shops are priced above >$200 and to me not really worth it.

The battery is not really a concern for me. Snapdragon is more efficient so it needs smaller battery. The build quality of RN8 is better, glass/gorilla glass 5 vs plastic/gorilla glass 3.

Camera depends on real world tests wont make much difference I guess.

So it is really RN8 looks slightly better if you are okay with smaller screen and lighter phone but it is 1yr old.

I would get the Redmi Note 8 in your case. Specs are much better overall and have a more premium build design compared to the Redmi 9.

If you want my input, right off the bat, I would suggest getting the newer Redmi 9 instead of the Redmi Note 8. Reasons being that the RM9 service life and support should last a little longer than the RMN8, plus it spots a larger battery capacity too (the RMN8 only has a 4,000mah battery is similar to your current RMN4). However, this only applies if you are a casual camera user that doesn't mind a subpar camera system for that price point in 2020.

I've read your concerns regarding the PM3 on the other thread, and I totally understand wanting to use the credits on Qoo10. Would it be possible to hold out for the newly announced Redmi Note 9 4G China edition projected to launch in Dec 2020? It spots similar specs to the PM3 but with a glossy backplate + better camera system. And if the announced pricing is any indication, it should translate to a lower $2xx range pricing - but I am unsure what price point it would be if and when it is available for SG market.

Edits: But from a dollar for hardware specs perspective, the RMN8 would be a better choice if you are only considering between the 2.

Actually now I am considering Redmi 10X 4g version, haha, which is another $25, but has the same camera as Redmi Note 8 and is a newer model.

Not entirely sure on the differences between Redmi 10X 4G Vs Redmi Note 9. They seem almost the same.

Yeah, they are same. R10X is for the China market and RN9 is for global market.
To be honest, I have actually ordered and paid for a RMN9 NFC version on Lazada during the 11.11 sale, but the seller sent me a non-NFC version instead, not to mention the wrong colour. I disputed that purchase and returned it for a refund that is still being processed. A few other sellers on that platform whom I have contacted had also advertised their RMN9 as with NFC also later confirmed their stock was in-fact without NFC, and that was when I decided to look at a different model altogether. It was fortuitous that the PM3 was announced and launched a week later, and it had the specs and features I found to be satisfactory and was also within the price point of a sub $2xx phone after promo and vouchers.

If you are looking at the RM10X China series, I would suggest maybe looking at RMN9 models with a price point that you might be comfortable with instead. Based on what I found online, they are basically the same with the exception of some minor differences which may be omissions of data on website comparison charts.

Are you in need of replacing your current phone with some urgency? If not, I would still suggest possibly waiting for the RMN9 4G China series instead, which has specs closer to the PM3 that is due to launch in Dec 2020 according to what I have read.

I just went ahead and placed the order for R10X. I want to get over with the urge to buy. Basically I had about $170 in Qoo10 money. I topped up another $20, so total cost is about $190. I couldnt find RN9 for that price in qoo10.

I like the full screen camera placement in the corner of this phone. Haha

NFC phones depending on your budget
$199 Redmi Note 8 Pro
Wait for flash sale at shopee xiaomiofficialstore.sg, with discount coupon and coins can go as low as $170

Poco X3
If you want to buy at qoo10, with coupons can get at $270 for 128gb.

Non nfc
Between note 8 and redmi 9, I will choose note 8. Despite being a few months older, the note series still have a better build than the redmi number series. Also prefer Snapdragon than helio g80.

Price wouldn't pay more than $150 for both. I got a note 8 for $120+ recently
