Refurbished MacBook Air

I am thinking of getting a refurb MBA.

is it worth the extra discounts? or will it be problematic?

refurb from apple store comes with standard warranty. it's pretty much "brand new" in a way. shouldn't have much problems.

That said, if you have someone that is eligible for education discount, that might be even better depending on which refurb you're looking at.

If you can't buy with education discount, refurbished is a great way to save some money. Applecare might save you some potential grief later on.

Refurb is ok stuff.

But having said that, if you are getting a MBA or any laptop, my recommendation is for you to purchase AppleCare within the 1st year to extend the warranty by another 3 years for a pretty simple reason - Laptops are usually carried around and are subjected to a higher level of wear and tear compared to desktop.

I had my G4 iBook's screen fail on me exactly the day the warranty ended. Although it is still in good working condition (save for the really annoying line in the screen), using it never felt the same again.

I have gotten a refurbished imac and two refurbished ipad mini.

No problems so far.

In fact, i just gotten a refurbished 13" MBA after returning MBA 11". Apple allows 14 days full refund if you are unhappy with their products. I tried 11" but found out hard to do proper work, so just returned it and got a 13".

Yup...

2014 refurbished 13.3" MBA. There was a small black dot just beside the glowing apple logo. I called apple singapore hotline and the staff actually gave me two options (since i still want the mba 13").... ask for replacement, or give me a $65 voucher.

I chose the latter.

You meant refurbished MBA still very expensive? The 2013 MBA sells for $908.

I just checked.. my battery recharge cycle is 4 fresh out of the box.

Acceptable I suppose.

Grabbed a refurb 11" MBA 2015 maxed out, 2.2GHz i7 512 GB with 8GB ram about 2 weeks ago. Nothing to complain about. Was about to get a replacement for my 2012 MBA (ran out of space) and this appeared. Have not had Apple Care for any of my Apple products (dating back to 3GS) and all have had no problems. Fingers crossed this works well into the future.

Been buying refurbish whenever possible. All are almost as good as new.

Personally, I feel that there is no need to buy Apple Care unless your device fails on you within the 1st year. Then you may have gotten a lemon, and potentially more problems. Further, after 1 to 2 years, there are new laptops out there, which may have improved greatly in terms of specs. Might as well just change a new one.

Out of my many Mac devices, only my 2009 27" iMac failed. And that is after 4 to 5 years. I still managed to trade it in at $500.
