Everybody and his dog benches 5 plates per side, squats a truck and deadlifts a mountain "back in the day".

The difference is that with the tempo he suggested, you're getting a lot more tension in the eccentric portion, which would cause a lot more DOMS.

Gala, but would increasing the volume not achieve the same thing hypothetically speaking.
For example if the load etc. was kept constant. Would the effect of a 10 rep set with 4 sec eccentrics lasting say a minute equate to a 2 10 rep sets with 2 secs eccentric lasting for a min as well?

It is quite evident that he is a rank beginner so why confuse him with the TUT talk in the first place?

Really curious on your take on the parts in bold. Thanks.

i only saw his comment about asking me to post the tempo training plan. Only realised he is quite fresh after a few more comments i saw. hope tt clears up

There are probably differences, but I haven't read the literature on it nor experimented enough to know. Personally I don't control tempo strictly, I have a controlled eccentric (probably ~1s), no pause, and concentric is as fast as possible.

@bear943 Based on what i know ppl normally count TUT as only the eccentric part of the movement. I.e. ur 10 rep set with 4 sec eccentric is going to be equivalent to 40sec tut while the other is 20sec. So the former is defintely going to be more effective.

Thanks man. My eccentrics are controlled to the point that I can reverse the movement at any time but don't last 4 secs.

Terence you missed the part where I mentioned 2 sets of 10 reps with 2 s eccentric to TUT is equal. but volume is higher in a sense as the reps are effectively doubled.
