I don't usually post reviews/comments on any forum but am compelled to share my experiences and have created an account just to do so. I just started learning (3A, BBDC) a month ago and have completed 5 lessons to date.

DO NOT engage NEO LAM THONG. I got him via LE DRIVING (yes, on hindsight while browsing through the forums then I realized all the self-posts and students who also encountered lousy instructors from them). I guess compared to other horror stories I've read, his teaching is considered average (doesn't fall asleep/chat etc.) BUT his attitude is IMO, unacceptable.

3 hours before my driving lesson, he sent me an SMS saying "Lesson change to Friday, 4pm ok." I replied that I am unable to as nobody could take care of my baby on Friday while I already made arrangements for someone to do so on our agreed lesson slot. He called me thereafter saying that he cannot make it because a circuit slot suddenly came up and "sometimes it's like that la". I said it's unfair because unlike poly/uni students who have more flexible schedules, I need to arrange for someone to take care of my baby whenever I go for driving lessons. He got all angry and upset when I said it's unfair and said "at least I tell you now and not you go there then no lesson". His tone was very defensive and somewhat chiding me like it's not his fault at all. And to top it off, he rudely hung up on me.

That same night, I decided OK NEVER MIND, I sent him an SMS asking what other slots he had for this week. He replied "Friday, 4pm". The next day, I replied to say OK after confirming that someone could look after my baby. His reply - "late reply, no more slot". Yes I know you have so many students and I'm not top priority because I don't have a test date yet (going for FTT next week) but in the first place, I don't have a slot this week now, purely because of your selfishness in taking my slot for your circuit business. And at least I replied more than a day in advance while you only informed me to change lesson 3 HOURS beforehand, and that's not "late"?!

I still replied nicely and asked if he then had weekend slots instead and since I will also be returning to work soon, I can only learn on weekends (which I also told him on two separate lesson occasions). Guess what? MIA, NIL REPLY from him. (I just read someone else's post that she was under Mr. Neo previously and he was so busy, she couldn't book slots and he ended up ignoring her).

EXCUSE ME?! I am a paying student and it is totally unprofessional to ignore me like that. I understand that sometimes you may have to change lesson slots but you are being so irresponsible, when you in the first place, have accepted me as a student. I am going to drop you first because you have so many students (95 and only 25 passed?!) and I'm not one of those you can change and cancel schedules at your whim and fancy.

Just wanted to share this with everyone else. Totally spoils my mood thinking about it.

Up for awareness for everyone!

But TS, do take not that the previous time i wrote my feedback on a particular instructor. I believe the instructor complained to the hardwarezone admin, and without any prove as it was a verbal conversation btn my wife and the instructor. In the end the admin has to delete my message.

Not sure why student still comes here to seek for instructor as these post are all advertisement. Word of mouth is still better.

Recommend this manual car instructor teaching around ubi area, I passed few months back. One of the top instructor highly experienced with pack schedule.
9616 9091.

Ps: actually I don't know his name. Cause I always call him uncle.

I second that, i call him Uncle Poh. Under him i managed get 8 demerit points and first time pass. Before my test he told me not to break his combo of 12 passing streak. So when i pass i add on to his passing streak to 13.

Most importantly, he has no temper. There is a few times i almost got into an accident but he never ever flare up at me. He may come across to some of you as quite an eccentric uncle but he is a funny uncle. He has a habit of singing in the middle of your lesson. The downside is that he always take 10 minutes smoke break in the middle of your lesson, so probably you will have only 50 minutes lesson out of the 1 hr lesson time. Despite the downside, he is really a reliable instructor that is well worth your money. In total i spent around $1200( including a gift i gave him for my pass, he likes XO so you guys know la, lol!)

Haha, he sounds like my ex instructor, last time my driving instructor gave me extra circuit timeslots on quite a short notice a couple of weeks before my test. I really appreciated it back then, was damn glad he did it for me man. I think all instructors once you get a test slot after passing your FTT, you will have higher priority? Come to think of it ah, if you touch wood suay suay fail FTT, you take so many lessons now also no use what. Makes sense. Might as well let other students learn. So in a way i feel its quite unfair to castigate your instructor based on this, Im sure you will appreciate instructors who gives you extra time (perhaps at the expense of other new low-priority students) when your own test approaches. And also on the bright side, he was nice enough to let you know so you didn’t lose time or $$.

Wouldn’t it be better to just call him talk to him? You msg him he v hard to reply cuz he whole day on road? That's what my instructor told me. Just my two pence on this issue.

Cheers

What a suspicious looking post. Hah. :s8:

You are at the receiving end thus naturally you feel that it's ok. What I feel is NOT OK in this instance, is his unprofessionalism. He kept defending himself like it's my fault and worse, just disappeared into thin air. How can you do this to a student? It is very irresponsible. I know he deliberately ignored me because from day 1, his mode of communication with me is via SMS but chose not to reply after this incident.

Anyone have a good Auto/3A private instructor to recommend? Preferrably Hougang area or nearby (Sengkang/Punggol/Kovan/Ubi).

Have been from an instructor recommended by Le Driving (their process and all is quick) but am finding a new one. Previously was learning Manual, instructor always wasting time. Will sit in car, talk in phone without moving off, use his notebook and make calls for like 20 minutes, not telling me what to do. Always full of sarcastic replies when I ask him things.

I know all these are part and parcel of learning driving lessons, but can you guys recommend me someone more decent and focused on the job?

Had my first practical lesson today. My instructor was Mr Wong Tuck Shing. He is very patient & all his instructions were crisp and clear.

I went into the circuit & into the traffic juncion in the circuit which is quite surpising as I didn't expect myself to be in the circuit at the very first lesson. He also asked me to change to 2nd gear for a smoother acceleration (at one point change wrong gear then stall the car).

I drove freely for like 1 hour & along the way he just point out the faults I have. My faults are mainly releasing the clutch a little too fast causing the car to stall. Haha! It was fun, as long you keep calm & follow instructions, you should be alright.
