Ok. Since you said so. If your salary is stuck at 2001 level, will you be ok? Obviously not because we are in a capitalist society. Wanting the government to control prices is a communist or socialist mindsets. It totally misaligned with our society.

Like others said, the proactive things to do, ts could have profited by buying up shop houses or malls when the law was abolished 24 years ago. But he has chosen to do nothing over 24 years and then chosen to complain about it, 24 years later... I finally understood what those movie said, what we are today, is the result of a series decisions that we made over the years. Some became mediocre because they have chosen to do nothing other than complaining others or the government didn't help them on this and that. Others took the pain, borrowed money, invested and 24 years after, they have a nest egg for their retirement.

Let the whinner carry on whining. Like what John Mayson once said... Singapore is worse now, we have a group that don't even bother to try.

what about those who were born later? who could not have profitted from 2001 as they were young or not even born yet?

They start off in life, dealing with inflated prices of a free market.

Who isn't born later? There were probably thousands of opportunities over 24 years to invest... But what did we do? Edmwers said, no loan is freedom and happiness. Hdbs are unaffordable pigeon holes. Buying condos are kumgong... And those are the decision over the years that made them who they are today... It's nobody's fault. Stop blaming others.

There is a quantum to meet. It is not as easy said that I will want to buy a shophouse and I can afford it.

Only the rich can do that. And that is the exact problem we are talking about.

Separately, HDB still has a reserve price for their coffee shop. There are units not tenanted out because reserve price is not met. Is this fair based on demand and supply?

saying about this... how come reits only up little bit nia... :( i thought previously a lot people predict reits will go up high high... :(

That day I was making a joke out of my friend who invested in REITS who worked at Techview in Kaki Bukit. He complained that he had to park at HDB Jalan Damai area and walk over as the season parking at Techview is expensive. I asked him a question, is Techview under Capitaland which i am not even sure. Took a screenshot from goggle map and showed to him, rest is history.

Letting sinkies rent out their room or house at the highest possible rent also not happy? TS must be foreign talent looking for room or house to rent

Bro you are making some pretty ludicrous comments. You asking TS or his predecessors to buy up shophouses and malls in a time when these were wholly inaccessible to retail investors? That's not an option unless you be in the top 0.1%

Anyway, REITs have their purposes. They allow the common people who could never otherwise afford property directly to partake in the market. Indeed there was a time when they were doing really well. Markets have ups, they have downs.

Sometimes you just want someplace reasonably safe to park assets.

Please have more educated guesses... You dug out a 24 years old news and made wild guess? You didn't complain rental surge 24 years ago? And suddenly 24 years after, you blame rental on an act enacted 24 years ago? Does that sound logical to you?

so did the repeal of the act for those properties under the act have any significant effect on the overall market? Even though it was a tiny portion of the market?
Negligible ba. 90% of those properties are conserved lol
