i'm looking at the miles blogs and they seem to value kf miles in the region of 1.7-2.0 cents per mile. that means for 4140 miles you're getting back $70.38 of value on top of the $1000. at 7%, it beats any fx savings you get. not sure how they arrive at the miles value estimate though. generally my trips are further to na/eu.
btw, which card offers reliable 4mpd that isn't capped by a low threshold?

Blogs doesn't equate to your own miles valuation. 2 cents per mile only if you redeem for premium cabins. Do you?

Like I say 30k miles for likes of SIN - HKG - SIN in economy, while SQ promo is S$298 for SIN - HKG - SIN. You think it is worth what the blogs say for at 2 cents per mile, if you do this type of redemption?

premium cabins skew it much more than 2cpm. last time i checked if you do biz/first you can get closer to 4cpm. but that's not the point.

comparing with hkg is useless because miles award is based on distance while sq promo reflects the complete lack of interest in people who want to fly to hk in the midst of the riots/virus situation. i personally don't use miles for short haul flights.

even if we take 1cpm, that works out to $35.19, which puts us back squarely at the fx fee difference. so, even in the worst case scenario, using the miles card breaks even with using a prepaid wallet and there is only upside left in the scenario.

Like I say, always is each individual's valuation of the miles. I'm just going to put more perspective here, for everyone to determine your own perspective on the miles valuation. Some people will pay the Citibank Premiermiles for 10k miles at $192.60, some (like me), won't pay, so there is no right or wrong.

heading to italy next week. just to clarify, we could exchange Euro in advance first in Revolut app and go there to their ATM to withdraw Euro (within 350SGD) without additional fees (most italy atms don't charge atm fees) on any days?

by leaving SGD in the app and doing a withdrawal on weekends then i will be subj to a weekend fee for the exchange to EUR?

Yes, if you anticipate a weekend withdrawal, then do convert in advance during weekdays.

Thanks RedsYWNA and gravityz3r0 for your helpful inputs. I've applied for youtrip but it takes 7-12 working days, so may not come before my trip next Friday. :s22: Where do they mail from?

It was quite fast for my wife when she applied for youtrip. Around a week. Revolut is quite fast too, as both youtrip and revolut have SG offices.

Nowadays I use Revolut mainly to withdraw RM for use in JB (< $350 mthly and before 8 am (Sat) to avoid the 1% mark-up), while using youtrip to swipe for overseas purchases.

network connect down is not crap. is a legit reason. happened to me a few days ago at jb shell petrol station. attendant tried 4 times all declined after i enter pin. the guy beside me was trying to use card and declined as well.

then i went back to my car to take my cash then went back inside a few mins later and ask them try the card again before handing over cash and the card transaction went through.

Successful first attempt at using youtrip lol. But the screen went blank for quite long after submitting the card details before loading the page to enter the otp.

Wah. Try 5x then got cash..

I tot JB won’t face this situation (I accept the comments above that Hyderabad is stil a backward india town)

Like the cash withdrawal reliability of this service drops and revolut already lost my trust....

like i’ve mentioned. this is an issue with the card network at that point of time. not revolut issue. the guy beside me was a sinkie using a sg credit card and the transaction was declined as well.
