Rig at around 800-100

Hello guys, looking to build a rig myself! This will be the first time I will be building a rig myself so would appreciate some inputs from you guys.

CPU+MOBO: i5-3470 + Gigabyte B75M –D3V --- $315
RAM: 8gb --- $73
SSD : Plextor 128gb M5S --- $135

All these add up to $523. Currently I have a CM5 casing, as well as a 550W PSU (been 4 years already), should I reuse them?

Also, I am looking to ship my GPU from amazon from recommendations from some of the bros here. However I checked the price for 7850 and it’s fairly similar. Am I missing out on anything here?

OS,HDD,Keyboard,Mouse,Monitor all not needed.

Not that you miss out anything, but you have to factor in Ivy bridge is end of the line. Consider going for the haswell CPU.

Hello m3 bro, I don't aim for the latest, and I only play dota2 and starcraft so i would think ivy would be good enough for me.

Hope this rig can last me another 4-5 years though. My current rig has served me well for 4 years ^^

I noticed you did not have a SSD... SSD is something i've been aiming for quite long haha

I have yet to buy as I'm overseas but from reviews on GPU, should be able to run on HIGH in both games. I don't think SSD hua leh... only start up time and boot times improvement, when gaming can't really feel the difference. Most bang for buck is get 1TB or 2TB. I tempted to get Caviar Black for 5 years warranty...

I also first time building so if any lao jiao want chip in and comment on the rig, please do!

I already have a 500gb HDD already, so i think i could use that and get a SSD instead. Yup would welcome more inputs! Main difference would be is haswell worth the extra dough? haha

Honestly I think if u r nt the type who always like to change parts and buy stuff every 3 4 yrs I think juz get bang for buck stuff and no need worry abt future proof.

Thats what I m going with since chipset and cpu gets update every 1 to 2 yrs

That's what I was thinking as well. I wanted to go Ivy Bridge but since the top up to Haswell is only $50, I think I'll take the chance and top up for the boost in integrated graphics (even though I have the discreet card!) and power savings albeit a very small amount...
