If you will be at Frankfurt airport, can you do me a favour and check if the luggage shop that sells Rimowa is still there - it's outside customs? It's a generic bag shop (not the Luthansa ones), and the sales person will offer full refund of the VAT.
If you have time lah...hahaha

Yes, there are 2 shops outside the immigration area, at the departure halls. I don't think you can save much (or any) if you buy in Germany as compared to other EU countries. They are more or less similar now. VAT refund can only be made if Frankfurt is the last stop before you exit EU. Make sure that you snap a photo of the stamped receipt before mailing.

Interesting thing about this shop is they don't refund through globalblue or the other vat refund companies which takes a cut. They refund direct into your credit card on the spot the full vat, think 19%?

Actually how much cheaper is Rimowa in Frankfurt as compared to Singapore?

You can go to Koffer.de | Der Onlineshop für Koffer, Trolleys und Lederwaren - Koffer kauft man bei Koffer.de to check the retail price. They are the same as in most shops in Germany and Europe. Then minus off around 11-12% on its retail price for VAT refund.

Not only Rimowa but other brands made in or originated from Germany, Italy, UK, etc. are all much cheaper there compared to SG.

I don't think so as they function as a regular retail shop. You can claim for refund at the last point of exit from EU. If you are travelling from Frankfurt to Paris for example, then your claim should be made at CDG airport in either cash or credit card.

As far as I know there are 3 VAT refund companies and Global Blue is the most popular, with the most queue, and they take a cut of 3 Euros for each receipt. The other company with the yellow form comes second and they don't take commission for cash refund. Some counters offer USD cash refund only, some credit card only.

regarding rimowa cabin bags...the airlines rule for SQ indicate that the maximum size allowable for economy class is IATA52.

are they very strict on this as i find IATA52 too small and was hoping to get IATA53 or even 56 but dont want to have problems at check-in or on board the plane if the bag cannot fit on the overhead bin.

My cabin size bag can expan due to ziper area. Cant close if they put vertically. so they put horizontally..

If they are nice the store it for u.. If not full load they ok. If full load u delay the plane a bit they bring it to ground crew to check in. Or they just dont wanna help.

Just bought a Topas for my wife in Munich. Found a shop recommended by people in tripadvisor forum. Prices tagged to luggage in the store is already 10% off. If you pay by cash, they give you additional 10% off. And you still get vat refund... I ended up paying 558€ for a 689€ Topas, with a 62€ vat refund.

Just sharing the information incase anyone wants to get them in Munich.

Looks like the best deal so far. Were there lots of Chinese tourists? Frankfurt shops are literally all retail price due to the high demand there. Not sure about other cities.
